The operational and philosophical beginning of Gwaltney & Associates was Gwaltney & Gwaltney, Inc, established by Jack and David Gwaltney, father and son ( respectively ) in 1984. The agency began as a life and health insurance agency. In 1987, the company departmentalized, with Jack continuing the life and health endeavors, and Dave starting the property/casualty insurance division. The following years brought growth, integration of new partners and services, and development of a strong and profitable company that ultimately provided insurance products, tax preparation, and other business services to more than four thousand Alaskan clients. In 1999, the remaining partners sold the agency to National Bank of Alaska, the largest financial institution in the state. David was hired as the Statewide Operations Manager for the newly formed NBA Insurance Services, LLC. After one year in his role, it was mutually agreed that business "visions" were incompatible. Dave voluntarily left employment in search of other endeavors. In 2002, after completion of a noncompete agreement and encouraged by former clients, Dave established Gwaltney & Associates, Inc Together with an excellent support staff and professional producers, Dave has resurrected an independent insurance agency that does not garner bank, credit union, or national brokerage house affiliation. G&A is an Alaskan Independent Insurance Agency serving Alaskans and those doing business in Alaska. The goals of Gwaltney & Associates are simple, and reflect modest desires. We wish to develop long-term relationships with high quality individuals and businesses. We have no desire to be the biggest - only the best. We have no desire to be a "one stop shop, " which works well for purchasing a chicken dinner and a pair of socks on the way home, but has not worked well for professional services. And we have no desire to be all things to all people, but rather solicit relationships with people that have common goals and aspirations.
