Union overpriced and slow.

I've had a truly horrifying experience with Central Plumbing and Heating. First, I'm dealing with a total nightmare to begin with, I broke my foot, my father died, my baseboard water heater completely failed and needs replaced, and now apparently I have sewage flooding into my basement from a backed up floor drain.



I called everyone, and apparently, everyone was busy. In desperation I accepted an outrageously overpriced bid of $9500 from Central only because they could get to me a few days sooner than anyone else. Even then, I was stuck waiting 8 days with no heat in winter with temps as low as zero.



And then a week later? They refused to help me. Apparently being that guy who actually needs something fixed in a reasonable period of time was too much trouble for them to deal with so they canceled my appointment.



Now I'm stuck calling all around town a week later to find someone else to do the job instead.

I was at first very impressed with Central. The gentlemen that explained to me the different boilers and pros/cons was extremely knowledgeable, the type of guy who has mastered a trade, not just working a job. Their boiler parts prices were competitive and I had a breakdown of exactly what parts I would be purchasing.

Then came my quote from the union workers who are the installers. The quote consisted of roughly 6 thousand in parts and 38k dollars in labor. I thought certainly they had confused my quote for a hanger at the airport or something... I hoped that they would straighten it out and we could proceed with the install. Central then stated it would take two union workers two weeks and that they charge travel time for the two weeks of driving to Eagle River. I called Central to discuss it but had no luck. They transferred me from department to compartment, each sales rep, sales manager, installer, scheduler was rude and stated that wasn't their responsibility. I had a major ER plumber install it for 1/4th the price and the job was done in two days, not weeks.
