Located in Amityville, N.Y., Amityville Head Start is a part of L.I. Child and Family Development Services, also known as Long Island Head Start, which is a private, nonprofit organization that provides child development and family support services through the involvement of parents, communities and staff members. It serves the residents of Suffolk County, N.Y., and maintains more than 15 locations in New York. Founded in 1966, the program offers services to over 1,500 children and families. L.I. Child and Family Development Services provides on-going training and support services to families in the areas of disabilities services, health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement, and family and community partnerships. The program also serves pregnant women and infants. It works with a team of more than 300 staff members.
