As stated by Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew G. Olsen, ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a DOJ “priority has been the robust enforcement of U.S. export and sanction laws and cracking down on efforts to evade those laws.” To support these increased enforcement efforts, which will include sanctions evasion investigations worldwide in various industries like fintech, banking, transportation, and defense, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco (DAG Monaco) stated that the National Security Division (NSD) would onboard 25 new prosecutors within the NSD and create the new position of Chief Counsel for Corporate Enforcement. Outside of the NSD, the Bank Integrity Unit (BIU) of the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS) is set to see increased funding and staffing and has been praised by DAG Monaco as having a significant track record or prosecuting global financial institutions for sanctions violations. Moreover, this push for additional funds and staffing to pursue further enforcement in the NSD comes on the heels of DOJ creating the Disruptive Technology Strike Force to combat attempted theft of advanced technology, and the KleptoCapture Task Force, formed shortly after the war in Ukraine, to seize luxury assets of Russian oligarchs.

Experience with capital markets transactions or SEC compliance is a plus. Candidates must possess at least 4 years of experience in this area, have strong drafting and negotiation skills, and deal team experience. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, a commitment to client service and the ability to multi-task and appropriately prioritize matters are also essential. Sexual Harassment
The rights and protections afforded to pregnant and nursing individuals at work were expanded late last year through two laws passed as amendments to the $1.7 trillion government spending bill signed by President Joe Biden. The Pregnant Worker’s Fairness Act and the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections for Nursing Mothers Act set minimum standards to protect individuals in the workplace affected by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions and lactation needs. Additionally, the Speak Out Act was signed into law in December 2022, rendering unenforceable pre-dispute, non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses related to allegations of sexual harassment and sexual abuse.

Investor Visas
The EB-5 visa allows foreigners to receive a green card if they invest at least $500,000 in a U.S. business that creates at least 10 local jobs. Interest in this program has skyrocketed since its inception, and the program has been of tremendous benefit to developers who are using it to finance large-scale real estate development projects. Investors who do not have direct family links to U.S. residents or sponsorship from a corporation have come from China, India, Mexico, Iran and many other countries. For them, the EB-5 serves both their business and personal interests. Our immigration attorneys, assisted by our tax and corporate teams, have advised clients from more than 50 countries in investor visa matters.
