        West Haven Police Department protects and serves the safety needs of the people of West Haven, Conn. The department is divided into six divisions and one unit. The divisions are patrol, detective, training, records, traffic and animal control. WHPD has a quality of life unit that addresses the needs of the city by enforcing traffic laws. The unit enforces laws regarding seat belts, cellular phone usage without a required hands-free kit, speeding, city ordinances and other violations. The quality of life unit addresses issues such as loud mufflers on automobiles and motorcycles, as well as excessive noise from radios. This unit, along with the patrol division, has made a significant difference in increasing the awareness of West Haven motorists.
