Oral Cancer Screening
During your checkup, expect a review of your dental and medical history, an examination of your mouth that includes oral cancer screening, a professional cleaning, possibly a fluoride treatment, and a general assessment of your home hygiene practices.

Teeth Cleaning
Healthy gums have little to no buildup of plaque and tartar, hug the teeth tightly, and do not bleed. Bleeding gums may be a sign of gingivitis or periodontitis. Gingivitis is the early stage of periodontal disease. It develops as plaque irritates the gums, causing them to become red, tender, swollen, and likely to bleed. Gingivitis can usually be reversed with a professional dental cleaning and improved oral hygiene. If plaque is not removed, it can harden into tartar.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatments use fluoride concentrations that are much higher than those than found in over-the-counter toothpastes and rinses. Fluoride can safely provide extra protection from decay, especially for patients who are at higher risk for dental caries. Treatments take only a few minutes to apply in the dentist’s office and are typically done following a cleaning.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are barriers that the dentist places over vulnerable tooth surfaces to prevent cavities. While regular brushing and flossing can effectively clean the smooth surfaces of teeth, these tools miss particles that get trapped in grooves and depressions. Sealants are typically placed over the chewing surfaces of the molars and premolars, where decay is most common, to seal out contaminants.

The bone cells attach to the implant in a process called osseointegration. After an initial healing period, during which the implant is left undisturbed underneath the gum tissue, it is uncovered and connected to a small post, which will serve as the foundation for the tooth or teeth that the implant will support.
