Overall
Racist Club

I was there with my co-workers that happened to be African American.... I am white and was shocked at the horrible service we received. We watched the table next to us get their drinks, appetizers and their "service" before we were even asked about appetizers. I (the one white guy out of six patrons) asked the group - "is it because I'm black." Without going into much detail I understand what happened. On departure I asked to see the Manger, his name was Mike Hers. I waited, waited, waited, and then realized he was already talking to the others in our party in the front of the restaurant by the door. I walked over and mentioned that I was the one who asked to speak with the manager. After he gave one of my friends his card with a promise to not repeat the experience he welcomed them back. I assume to receive the same treatment. I interrupted and said that I was the one who asked to see the manager - they hadn't. Apparently he knew who who he should be giving his card to. After a brief discussion he gave me his card and promised a better experience next time.

How would you feel? Was it racist? Did management respond appropriately per policy or management directive. We were completely blown off. I guess our $200 bill was paid and Mike Herz just wanted us to go. I could be wrong but that is how I felt.

I don't want a free meal. I make more money than Mike and don't really want or need his charity. What this establishment did was JUST WRONG. I WATCHED IT HAPPEN IN FRONT OF ME.

I have nothing against the business. I had never been there. I was shocked. Its 2010 and this happened in Washington, D.C.

I'm sorry you feel you received poor service because we are "racist", but I fail to see what prompted you to assume that anyone's race was the reason. Were you sat before the table next to you? Maybe it was another servers section? Could it be possible that you are being overly sensitive to the issue? I can assure you that we are not racist, I (the General Manager) am Hispanic, and half of our clientel are minorities. Also your comment about how much money Mike made was uncalled for, you are guilty of the your own type of prejudice and unfairly judging people. I'm sorry you and your friends had a less than enjoyable experience but you need to be careful and have some type of proof before you throw out terms like racist. I personally am offended that you would use that word to describe my restaurant.
