During your intra-oral exam we will be looking inside your mouth with dental telescopes for lumps, areas of tenderness, and any abnormal colors on your tissue, specifically red patches and sores, grey patches and white patches. During your extra-oral exam we will be feeling down the sides and front areas of your neck and the areas under your cheeks and chin for any tenderness, swollen glands, unusual bumps or lumps and enlarged lymph nodes.

Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is commonly discovered after it has metastasized to another location which is commonly the lymph nodes in the head and neck region and the prognosis is significantly worse. Once into the lymph nodes the cancer can spread throughout the lymphatic system in the rest of the body. In the early stages oral cancer is usually painless and may not be noticed by one. Dr. Drone and his team of hygienists will perform an extra-oral and intra-oral cancer screening exam at each oral health care exam which is biannual at the minimum.

Resin Composite

Root Canal Treatment
Ceramic crowns completely encircle the entire tooth cover from the biting surface down to the gums. Crowns are indicated when teeth are damaged from trauma or broken, affected with large decay, weakened by large fillings or root canals. Zirconia is among the most used materials for crowns as they mimic the look of natural teeth and give the strength of a natural tooth as well. Porcelain crowns will last longer than any other form of tooth repair.

Periodontal Surgery
In more advanced cases where the result from routine scaling and root planning was not as successful, a referral to a periodontist is necessary who may recommend periodontal surgery. With the surgery a flap is made so the periodontist will be able to have direct access to each tooth and perorm a more advanced cleaning.
Deep Cleaning
Gingivitis and periodontal disease occur when bacteria from dental plaque colonize on the gum tissue, at the gum line and below the gum line. The colonies of bacteria produce toxins which destroy the gums, the jawbone bone and can cause serious inflammation and irritation causing detrimental effects to artificial joints and organs like the kidneys, liver, heart, stomach, and pancreas. When the gum tissue and jawbone are affected by the toxins from the gingivitis or periodontal disease, the teeth shift, become unstable, or completely fall out. The pockets between the gums and teeth become deeper and harbor more bacteria which then travel throughout our bloodstream and begin to infect the body organs. A prophylaxis is normally recommended twice a year and is an excellent procedure to help keep the oral cavity in good health and also prevent the progression of periodontal disease. If one is diagnosed with periodontal disease then a different therapy know as root planning and scaling along with periodontal maintenance is required to prevent the progression of periodontal disease. Patients diagnosed with periodontal disease will need to be seen by the hygienist three to four times a year.

Dentures
If you have lost all, or most of, your natural teeth then dentures may be the best dental solution to restore your smile and your ability to chew. According to the American College of Prosthodontists more than 36 million Americans do not have any teeth and 120 million people in the United States are missing at least one tooth. These numbers are expected to grow in the next two decades. The most common reason for tooth loss is periodontal disease (gum disease), but other reasons for tooth loss are dental decay, dry mouth, trauma, cancer and bruxism (grinding of teeth). Certain systemic conditions also result in multiple missing teeth. One of the most common genetic defects affecting teeth is called ectodermal dysplasia and individuals with this symptom usually have complete tooth loss. About 23 million individuals are completely edentulous and about 12 million are edentulous in one arch.
Overdentures
Removable dentures are a good option for patients who are missing all of their teeth or their remaining teeth cannot be saved. With this solution dental implants are not used to improve the fit of the dentures. Without dental implants, the dentures are not as comfortable or as effective in chewing or speaking. Individuals may have to use denture adhesives to improve the fit or “suction” of the denture and this type of prosthetic option is the least expensive option compared to implant overdentures.

Oral Surgery
Tooth Extractions
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth. You and Dr. Drone may determine that you need a tooth extraction for several reasons. While Dr. Drone will strive to prevent an extraction of a single tooth, multiple teeth or all teeth whenever possible, but certain conditions describe below may be the only solution for optimal oral health or restoring your smile.
Bone Grafting
Tooth loss results in deterioration of the jaw bone and many times patients will need an additional procedure called a bone graft to provide a better support for the dental implant. This procedure is very common, safe and is needed for a multitude of reasons. If your bone is too narrow or fragile our team of oral surgeons may recommend a bone graft prior to implant placement. Bone grafting stimulates your healthy bone to regenerate. The healing process takes about 3 to 4 months to ensure a stable foundation. It is a routine and kind procedure when planning for dental implants.

Orthodontics
Teeth may need to be extracted because they are poorly aligned in the mouth (wisdom teeth or impacted teeth) or severe crowding that cannot be corrected by orthodontics.
Braces
A dental bridge can be an alternative restoration to a dental implant, a removable partial denture, or treatment with braces. We strongly believe in replacing a missing single tooth or multiple teeth and offer a wide variety of tooth replacement solutions to provide you with a stunning smile.

Teeth Whitening
No Pain: On contrary to what you may think, there is little to no discomfort with a professional teeth whitening treatment. In some instances patients may feel a slight increase in tooth sensitivity when the teeth are exposed to extreme hot and cold beverages, but our office always provides tooth sensitivity products to minimize any sensitivity.
