Workers CompensationFrom 1984 to 2004, Mrs. Kerns worked in various capacities within the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation and the Florida Department of Financial Services, (formerly the Department of Insurance) including: Assistant Director of the Division of Workers' Compensation; Chief of the Bureau of Agent & Agency Licensing; and most recently, Chief of the Bureau of Property and Casualty Forms and Rates. He also served as an Administrative Law Judge with the Division of Administrative Hearings handling a wide variety of cases throughout Florida in the areas of environmental law, professional licensing, zoning and land use, certificates of need, rule challenges, and bid protests. Mr. Conn has been General Counsel to the Department of Business Regulation which is now known as the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, State Courts Administrator for the Florida Supreme Court, Assistant Attorney General and staff counsel for legislative committees. In addition, he has taught water law at Stetson University College of Law and judicial administration at the University of Florida as an Adjunct Professor, and has been a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars. Mr. Conn has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1973. In 2005 and 2010, Mr. Conn was named by his peers as one of Florida's Legal Elite in the practice area of government and administrative law by Florida Trend magazine.

Corporate LawMr. Hughes’ complex commercial litigation practice spans a wide range of contractually based subject matter including insurance, finance, real estate, construction and corporate governance. He handles litigation involving property and casualty insurance, surety bonds, workers compensation insurance, excess insurance, reinsurance and title insurance. He is experienced in all types of insurance litigation, ranging from first party coverage issues to bad faith claims in both the first and third party contexts. He is well versed in litigation between insurance companies and in the litigation of issues related to self insurance funds. In the finance area, Mr. Hughes has handled lender liability litigation from both the lender’s and the borrower’s side, as well as more routine financial disputes. He is involved in a wide variety of real estate cases, including disputes over purchase and sale contracts, broker rights, easements and land development rights. He has extensive experience in litigation involving the unique aspects of the Florida laws governing homeowners associations and condominiums. Mr. Hughes also litigates disputes over the construction of residential, commercial, association and condominium properties. He has considerable experience in the litigation of corporate governance issues related to partnerships, limited partnerships, joint ventures, limited liability companies and both privately owned and publicly held corporations, including shareholder derivative suits.
Mergers and AcquisitionsMr. Brannen's practice focuses on commercial and real estate related litigation, commercial real estate transactions, and corporate transactions and formations. Mr. Brannen's practice also includes the representation of multiple banks throughout Florida in matters of loan workouts, collections and foreclosures. He also serves as counsel for bank mergers and acquisitions in Florida.

Unfair CompetitionMr. Hughes has handled a wide variety of tort litigation, but now focuses his tort work on business torts, products liability and defamation. His business tort experience includes the defense and prosecution of claims for fraud, negligent misrepresentation, tortious interference with business relations and expectations, unfair competition and unfair business and trade practices. He has litigated business torts arising from the banking, insurance, trucking, real estate development and investigative services industries. In the products liability field, Mr. Hughes has defended manufacturers, distributors and retailers in cases involving such diverse products as automobiles, medical products, bicycles, furniture, building materials, chains and mechanical equipment. He also defends and prosecutes libel and slander cases, particularly political cases and those involving public figures.
