Comprehensive ExaminationBuck Lake Animal Hospital is equipped with in house radiography processing and developing to take X-ray images if needed of your pet. Often dogs and cats may have internal injuries that cannot be seen by a physical examination alone, and X-rays are needed. Dr. Varela and his staff have years of experience taking accurate X-rays so treatment can begin quickly. If your pet is involved in an accident, swallowed a foreign object, or has other internal issues, call us and have our caring doctor and staff care for your pet.
Dental CareCaring for our own dental health is a daily routine in our lives, including daily brushing and flossing as well as yearly cleanings and exams. Remember that our pets require regular professional dental care just like people do! Our hospital offers a thorough dental exam with every physical exam, and will make dental recommendations if abnormalities are detected.
VaccinationMicrochipping is the only effective permanent identification. The chip itself is the size of a grain of rice, implanted by injection (similar to a vaccination) under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chip is made of an inert, biocompatible material that will not disintegrate, rust or cause an allergic reaction and will last the life or your pet. The chip has no power source- it’s activated by a short radio wave that can be read by a scanner. Each chip has a unique code that can be tracked back to your registered information and the implanter.
Lab and X-Rays
Laboratory ServicesOur hospital is pleased to offer the most advanced diagnostic equipment available to today’s veterinarian. Just as with human medicine, in certain illnesses or surgical events it may be necessary to take a look at your pet’s bloodwork prior to the procedure. Our facility has the ability to run a complete blood count (CBC) to determine the amount of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets present in your pet. We can also determine how well your pet’s organs, including liver and kidneys, are functioning through a blood chemistry analysis. Finally, we can find and observe your pet’s electrolyte levels to determine if fluid therapy is necessary. Our equipment can perform these important tests within minutes in the case of an emergency, or while you wait prior to surgery. Ask one of our trained staff members or doctors if you have any questions about how bloodwork can benefit your pet.
MicrochippingA scary fact that many owners either worry about or avoid thinking about: pets run away or escape and get lost. Reports estimate 1 in 3 pets will go missing and never be returned home.
Chronic Condition Treatment
Cancer TreatmentComplications of the skin and ears are among the most common reasons for veterinary office visits. The skin is considered the largest organ in the body, and problems with it can leave your pet feeling uncomfortable and distressed. This can cause you as an owner to feel concerned with your pet’s constant scratching, licking, and general unease. These are all symptoms associated with most dermatological issues. Animals are susceptible to a variety of skin disorders including Allergies, Ectoparasites, Bacterial and Fungal Infections, Hereditary and Congenital Diseases, Chronic Ear Infections, Diseases of the Feet, Footpads and Nails, Autoimmune Skin Diseases, Endocrine (hormonal) Disorders, and Skin Cancer.
Kidney Disease TreatmentIn addition to proper dental care, nutrition is one of the cornerstones of a healthy dog or cat. Did you know estimates indicate that approximately half of all pets in the United States are considered overweight or obese? Pets that are overweight face many of the same medical problems faced by people who overeat. Diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and arthritis can all strike overweight people as well as pets. Dr. Varela and his staff have years of experience of determining the proper diet and portions for pets. Schedule an appointment with Buck Lake Animal Hospital and have your pet evaluated today!
Periodontal Disease TreatmentRemember that most periodontal disease can be prevented through daily home care and professional exams and cleanings. Schedule your pet’s dental exam with our office today!
Parasites Treatment and ControlWe maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and intestinal parasite control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.
Pain ManagementDid you know if pain medication is given BEFORE a surgery is performed your pet will hurt much less AFTER the surgery, require less anesthesia & post-operative pain medicine, and recover more quickly from the procedure performed?
