MRII have always been an active golfer, but I could no longer see where my ball was going. My son-in-law got tired of helping me look for my ball and recommended that I see another ophthalmologist, specifically Dr. Ed Wade. After my first visit to Dr. Wade, he told me that he thought he could help me. He recommended further testing, and from those test results, he determined that I had a tumor on my pituitary gland that was pressing on my optic nerve which was causing my loss of vision. He scheduled an MRI and immediately set an appointment for me to see Dr. David Baskin, program director of neurosurgery at Methodist Hospital. Not only did Dr. Wade correctly diagnois that I had a pituitary tumor, he also sent me to this renown neurologist for tumor removal. Prior to surgery, my sight was totally gone in my right eye, and vision loss was continuing in my left eye. Following the removal of the macro adenoma tumor, my vision has been totally restored.

GlaucomaGlaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve. Glaucoma is caused by the drainage passage inside the eye being mechanically blocked or not functioning correctly. This causes a build up of clear fluid called aqueous humor which subsequently causes a rise in intraocular pressure. This pressure can damage the optic nerve over time and cause a loss of peripheral vision and eventually central vision. Even when the intraocular pressure is not above average, it may still be high enough to cause optic nerve damage. Average intraocular pressure in adults is 15 mmHg, but normal intraocular pressure is different for each individual. The higher the intraocular pressure, the more likely is the possibility of progressive glaucoma damage.

If you have Medicare, please also be prepared to pay your deductible and/or any co-insurance at the time of your visit.
CataractsThough most people have heard of cataracts, not everyone knows exactly what they are. Contrary to popular belief, they are not a film growing over your eye. A cataract occurs when the natural lens in your eye becomes cloudy, making it harder for light to enter your eye. This can cause obscured or blurred vision, similar to looking through a foggy window.

Eyelid SurgeryExcessive or ‘redundant’ upper eyelid skin is a very typical aging change that leads people to seek eyelid surgery. In many patients, this surgery can be performed under light sedation with local anesthesia as an outpatient office procedure. In some cases, protruding fat behind the eyelids is also removed. As with most facial aging changes, no two people present with exactly the same eyelid concerns. Surgical treatment is therefore individualized to the needs of each individual patient.
Plastic SurgeryAesthetic plastic surgery of the eyelids can produce a dramatic rejuvenating effect, literally taking years off of a person’s appearance. Learn More
BlepharoplastyThe eyes are the primary facial feature that communicates tiredness or exhaustion (and, likewise, energy and vitality). Your cheeks and your neck don’t really reflect whether or not you’ve had a good night’s rest. But miss a night of sleep and your eyes will make it obvious to everyone. Dr. Mark Mayo can help you combat the signs of aging around the eyes with upper eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery (technically called “blepharoplasty”) is a procedure to remove fat – usually along with excess skin and muscle – from the upper eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct excess, hanging skin covering the natural fold of the upper eyelids – features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision.
