Teeth Cleaning
Sometimes a dental cleaning is not enough to get a person’s teeth and gums healthy. Unhealthy bacteria can live below the gum tissues and colonize tooth root surfaces. Deep seated bacteria and their by-products need to be flushed from the root and gums surfaces. This usually requires two visits with the hygienist and a numbing medicine to keep things comfortable. Additionally, these people also are advised to see the hygienist more frequently for routine maintenance cleanings. The trouble with gum disease is that it can return if the gums and teeth aren’t maintained well.

Fillings
Resin Composite
This patient came to us with very broken down enamel on his teeth and a very tight budget. This transformation occurred over several appointments and involved building up his teeth with resin composite crowns and fillings. These restorations will eventually have to be replaced, but his smile looks great, and he can gradually replace them with long-lasting crowns as his dental insurance and budget allows.
Veneers
In some cases we are able to correct discolorations or crooked tooth positions with bonded tooth colored fillings. Bonding tends to be a more conservative and less costly option, but such restorations tend to hold up less well than crowns or veneers in the long term.
Crowns
Sometimes we can restore broken or decayed teeth with fillings. Other times the injury is too large for a filling to be successful. In these cases we often advise that a crown be done. A crown is sometimes called a “cap”, because it covers all surfaces of the injured tooth and reinforces it with strong metal and/or porcelain.
Bridges
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
When the nerve inside a tooth is exposed to bacteria by way of tooth decay or a fracture, a root canal procedure can be performed at our office to save the tooth. The general steps are as follows: 1) The tooth is numbed completely with local anesthetic, 2) The nerve tissue is accessed through the top of the tooth, 3) The nerve tissue is removed from the tooth with a series of precision titanium files, 4) The inside of the tooth is sanitized and dried, and 5) The nerve canal spaces are sealed with a rubber material (Gutta Percha) which prevents further infection. Dr Spray performs most of the root canal procedures in our office, but he occasionally refers more difficult cases to a root canal specialist (Endodontist).

Dentures
We can restore missing teeth with full or partial dentures. A full denture replaces all of a person’s teeth on the top and/or bottom jaw. A partial denture replaces some but not all of a person’s missing teeth. Both types of dentures are designed to be removed during sleeping hours. Advantages: Dentures improve a person’s smile dramatically and help with chewing, and the cost is usually less than implants or bridgework. Disadvantages: Dentures can take time to get used to and tend to move or rock during chewing.

Dental Implants
We can restore missing teeth with a dental bridge. Bridgework is permanently cemented and can replace up to 4 missing teeth. The teeth that support a dental bridge have to be healthy and strong, and they must be situated on either side of a missing tooth area. In preparation for bridgework, these ”retainer” teeth are modified and reduced so that the bridge can be attached to them. Advantages: bridgework tends to be covered by insurance to a greater degree than implants and can be completed more quickly: within several weeks. Disadvantages: We have to make significant changes to healthy teeth in order to make a bridge for someone.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
We typically need to remove teeth for patients who have advanced levels of tooth decay or gum disease. Dr. Spray has ample clinical experience in oral surgery and performs a majority of dental extractions for his patients here at our clinic. He will refer some patients to an oral surgeon, especially if they want to be put to sleep during the procedure.
Tooth Extractions

Orthodontics
This patient was born without two front teeth. For many years she wore a removable dental appliance that filled in the gaps. Her plan had originally been to have implants placed in the missing areas, but there was not sufficient room for this. She had a choice to make: have orthodontics done again to widen the spaces so implants could be placed, or have two fixed bridges made. She chose the second option. With this approach we were able to modify all six front teeth to give them beautiful contours and a vibrant white shade. She was very happy with the result.

Teeth Whitening
We help patients get their teeth whiter by making them custom fitting trays that are used to carry a prescription strength whitening agent. The trays are typically worn for one to two hours per day for 2 to 3 weeks. After this initial whitening period, patients typically need to use their trays once a year to maintain their bright smile.
