Pediatric Care
Smithfield Pediatrics uses the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care. PATIENT CENTERED is a way of saying that your child is the most important person in the health care system. Your child is at the center of his or her health care.
Primary Care
Family Practice
She started her professional career in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. She then transitioned into family medicine and pediatrics. She happily joined our practice in October 2016 as pediatrics is her true passion.
Emergency Care
Smithfield Pediatrics is excited to announce that board-certified Physician’s Assistant Jennifer Portelli-Gupta will be joining our practice to periodically help with sick and urgent care visits. With her help, we will be able to accommodate more same day visits in a timely manner. Having another provider will also allow Dr. Dietrich and Jennifer Barton PA-C to have increased availability in their schedules to see their established patients for well visits, consults, and follow ups to keep them on track for the year!
Infectious Diseases
She did her pediatric residency training at Hasbro Children’s Hospital/Brown University, where she also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
Immunizations
She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at both Brown Medical School and Bryant University Physician’s Assistant Program. She has a strong interest in infection prevention, public health and immunization policy, integration of behavioral health into primary care, and early literacy promotion. She serves on the Infection Prevention Committee at Women and Infants Hospital, the Vaccine Advisory Board at the RI Department of Health, the Behavioral Health Committee at Rhode Island Primary Care Corporation and the Practice Advisory Council for Reach Out and Read RI.

Autism
Originally from New York City, Jennifer Portelli-Gupta moved to Waltham, MA and completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology, double minoring in anthropology and philosophy. She then held a variety of roles within the healthcare field throughout the years, including working with children with autism, until she pursued her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Bryant University. There she completed a wide variety of clinical rotations, including completing her pediatrics rotation here in our office. Since graduating, she is working at Brown Medicine in the emergency department and has gained a great deal of experience in acute care there that will make her an excellent fit to treat the children in our practice.

Mental Health
Children of any age can experience depression, anxiety, school and/or behavioral problems. Children may also need help adjusting to family changes such as divorce or new siblings, or to change unhealthy habits such as poor sleep or diet. Our providers are ready to discuss these issues when they occur. We also have in-house child and family therapy services available, as well as an extensive referral network of specialists to address your child or family’s particular needs, so please discuss these needs with your provider. We can also provide social work services.
