General Info

Massage therapy can be a healing tool and users quickly realize that they have found a form of drugless therapy. Headaches, insomnia, digestive disorders including constipation and spastic colon, arthritis, asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, sinusitis, and minor aches and pains are some of the problems that can respond to massage therapy. Massage can have an excellent effect on nervous people who have been dependent on their pharmacy for rest and relaxation.

Massage has its greatest benefits over time. The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative, so the more often a person gets a massage, the better he or she will feel and the more quickly one’s body will respond. From one session to the next, relaxation deepens as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are affected and released. These changes are readily felt in day-to-day life as well, which adds another dimension of reinforcement. If you are getting massage to address chronic muscular tension or recovery from a soft tissue injury, more than one session is usually needed, so be prepared to schedule several sessions.

The relationship of stress and illness is of interest to anyone maintaining their health. We all have stress in our daily lives relating to work, family, environment, society. Mental tensions, frustrations, and insecurity are among the most damaging. Stress causes the release of hormones that create vaso-constriction, or vessel shrinking – which causes reduced circulation. Affected by stress, the heart works harder, breathing becomes rapid and shallow, and digestion slows. Nearly every body process is degraded. Psychosomatic studies show how stress factors can cause migraines, hypertension, depression, some peptic ulcers, etc.

Researchers have estimated that 80% of disease is stress related. Soothing and relaxing massage therapy can help by counteracting stress effects.

Massage also aids recovery from soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. This is possible because the growth and repair of tissue are accelerated by efficient circulation in the injured areas and appropriate stimulation of the healing tissues. Many soft tissue injuries are not serious enough to cause one to visit a doctor or hospital for treatment, or are only treated with some first-aid, but still cause some discomfort and disability. Massage therapy can often help speed and improve recovery and reduce discomfort from such mishaps. In this way, massage helps bridge the gap between common neglect of injury and major medical intervention.

Services

Swedish Massage uses a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction percussive and vibration techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. It is used primarily for full-body sessions and promotes general relaxation, improves blood circulation and range of motion, and relieves muscle tension. Deep Tissue also called Neuromuscular releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Sports Massage Therapy is classified into three main categories: maintenance, event and rehabilitation. Maintenance massage is a regular program of massage to help the athlete reach optimal performance through injury-free training. Event massage takes place before, during and/or after competition to supplement an athlete’s warm-up; readying the athlete for top performance, and/or to reduce the muscle spasms and metabolic build-up. Rehabilitation massage techniques are effective in the management of both acute and chronic injuries. Pregnancy Massage- During pregnancy and childbearing, there is an enormous influx of hormones and a shifting center of gravity. The weight gain, altered body shape, and resulting discomfort, all contribute to pregnant women feeling uncomfortable, emotionally and physically! Massage can provide an excellent means for relieving body stress. When a woman feels integrated and healthy in her body and mind, she will experience a more positive birth experience. Chair Massage is administered while the client is clothed and seated in a specially designed chair which slopes forward allowing access to the large muscles of the back. On-site massage usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, and is intended to relax and improve circulation. It reduces work-related stress, improves alertness, performance and productivity.

  • Great Massage Therapist

I just had a massage by Charles Dane at Savannah Massage. It was an amazing experience. I was a little apprehensive about getting a massage by a guy, but Charles made me totally comfortable and at ease. He asked questions about my physical issues, but as he worked he just seemed to know where the knots were and which muscles needed more work. He could tell by touch just what I needed. When it ended I was so relaxed. He also gave me some stretching exercises which will help some of my tight muscles. He demonstrated them and had me do them to make sure I was doing it correctly. Additionally, it is a very soothing environment with soft music and lush green plants. It is definately something I will do again.
