American Red Cross

I have used the blood donation services of the American Red Cross since I joined the U.S. Air Force back in 1969. Over the five (5) past decades, I have never had so much as a single bad cookie, let alone a bad experience with a blood donation. Last October 2011 my wife and I were on our 40st Anniversary celebration by cruising up to Alaska when during breakfast of the second day a ship-wide announcement of need for anyone with A+ blood and a Red Cross card. I was there in two minutes, as were dozens of other people. Many of us were screened, a few gave blood while the rest of us waited; 5 pints brought the person through. The wife and daughter of the person in need came out to thank us, but initially broke down in tears when then they saw the dozens and dozens of us sitting in chairs, on the floor, and up the stairs to the next floors. That was enough gratitude to make ME appreciate the VALUE of that little white card I always carry in my wallet. What do you carry in your pocket? Better be a Red Cross card - could save your life!



So, how many "STARS" is a life worth? I never knew this person on this ship. He and his family were the first to be whisked off to the hospital at the first Port of Call, so never got to meet him, know his name. Nonetheless, any person's life is worth 5 stars! Hope you agree.
