General Info

James Dunford, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician. He been a faculty member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine since 1980. Over this period, he has supervised the care of thousands of patients and trained hundreds of medical students and housestaff. He founded the UC San Diego emergency medicine training program and has received numerous awards for teaching and service, including: Golden Apple Outstanding Teacher Award (1992, 1993); Society of Academic Medicine Best Faculty Discussant Award (1996); Emergency Medicine Golden Apple Award (1997, 1998); membership in the UC San Diego Academy of Clinician Scholars (2003); San Diego Medical Society Top Doctor Award (2004, 2007-2011); UCSD Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences Award (2005); UCSD Chancellors Associates Faculty Excellence Award (2006); Metropolitan Medical Directors Michael K. Copass Award (2007); AHA Western States Volunteer Physician of the Year Award (2008); Interagency Council on Homelessness Pursuit of Solutions Research Award (2007); San Diego Business Journal Physician Champion Award (2009); CDC/NHTSA Nicholas Rosecrans Award (2010); Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award (2010); San Diego Metro Magazine SD Metro Mover to Watch Award (2011).Current Positions: (1) City of San Diego Medical Director (EMS) (2) Medical Director.
