Terrible! I have been to ...

Terrible!

I have been to this legendary San Antonio restaurant several times in the past and I don't ever remember being this disappointed. I've always felt the food was good, but not fantastic. But normally the staff and atmosphere increase the pleasure of the dining experience.

Today it was TERRIBLE! The only thing that was good about my experience is that the food came out fast. 3 of us had the Grande Taco Salad during lunch. The beef taco meat was cold, the shell was cold and hard and my friend had SEVERAL pieces of gristle in her meat. Extremely unappetizing...It was awful! Another friend had the chicken quesadilla and it was VERY GREASY and she found 2 chicken bones when eating it. After telling the waiter (who was not great to begin with) about the gristle he replied "You should have told me sooner." My friend had just bit into the nasty meat 1/2 through her meal. Then after being told about the chicken bones, he didn't say a word. The waiter never apologized, and only the salad was removed from our bill. It was an awful dining experience and we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Overall
no customer service

A few of us from work got together for a Christmas dinner here. It was not at all what I expected. Food was horrible and service was even worse. I ordered chicken fajita quesadillas. It wasn't under the appetizer menu so I figured it would come with sides, especially for it being almost $10. But no all I got were 2 cold quesadillas.

Overall
really good

I ate there a few weeks ago with some friends and thought it was one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to, and I've been to lots. I was in a party of 5 and we were all happy with the food and service. Their salsa was some of the best I've ever had. Some of us asked for changes to what was on the menu, and they were made as requested. I was very happy with the place. Will definately go back the next time I'm in SA.

Food comes out fast

The food and prices are average.

The salsa is good.

I give Tomatillos four stars instead of three because the food usually comes out pretty fast.

I eat here a couple times a year.

Overall
Way over priced

No way, never again. I've never been to this restaurant before but visited because of a wedding dinner. We had a limited menu to pick from because of the event. We were a little late so we didn't get to eat the appetizers. The plate was okay. Maybe my expectations were a bit high but they were located on Broadway across from the Witte Museum and located near Alamo Heights. What we got for the price we paid, we could've gone to Taco Cabana and got the same amount of food, FRESH and cheaper by $6. It was weird how fast the food came out. We didn't get to eat the appetizer so when they brought me the bill, I noticed they didn't give me credit for it. The manager immediately closed her eyes and shook her head and simply said "That's the price of the plate, sorry". What kind of customer service is that? If she wasn't going to give me credit for the food NOT eaten that I paid for, she could've offered a coupon for a free appetizer for my next visit, a gift card for the amount of the appetizer OR offered to have them cook it for me to take to-go. Not very good customer service, would've gone to Mi Tierra's in the Market Square. Cheaper for the same food, their salsa is way better and the tostada chips don’t come from a bag, they make them fresh and waaay better customer service. On top of that, Its located in downtown San Antonio. I’m Mexican-American and do not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food for a good price.
