Thrifty Car Rental

Doesn't even rate one star. Beware Military Members! The guy checking us in said we would receive a military discount on upgrade. Once I got the bill, I was charge double the quoted amount. I talked with customer service and the lady said they do not offer military discounts on upgrades and it was my fault for not reading the fine print. She was unconcerned their employee lied to us. The car was filthy on top of that. I could have rented three cars for the price I was charged.

Worst service I've ever encountered. My flight arrived late into San Antonio. The "convenient" desk at the baggage claim was closed, but a sign was posted to proceed out the door to the shuttle. Once at the curb, every other shuttle bus passed me, some twice. After finding no local number for Thrifty, I called their 800 number and after being on hold for at least 10 minutes, find out they are closed and I can't get a car, even though I have a reservation and they've known since I made the reservation that I had a late flight. Had it just been me, I could have conceivably understood, but there were at least five groups waiting. After talking with the driver of the Hertz shuttle, he radioed back to their office and let them know he was bringing us all in. Hertz was kind enough to honor my reservation and my rate, which makes sense since they own Thrifty/Dollar. Once in Hertz' office, the agents said Thrifty has been closing their office early for at least a month without telling any customers with reservations, so their backlog falls on Hertz to fulfill. Between the local office and the national call center, it's safe to say that I will never rent from Thrifty again, even if the rate is higher elsewhere. Very poor business model, Thrifty. Shame on you.

The airport location is very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The cars are new(er) and they seem to always have a nice range of availability. Additionally, if you do have any issues, it has been my experience that they always have dealt with them efficiently and were helpful - not making excuses or a blame game.



My only constructive criticism would be that recently, their cars have not been as clean as possible on the inside. That has been disappointing, Also, when dialing the local number vs, the 800 number; often there is no answer or a long call time.



Managers have been responsive & listen. Recently dealt with Offie - and she is top-notch!



I am a Blue Chip member and recommend it to all! There are many perks and quick service. Better than OJ's long-gone promises with Hertz any day! : )
