Brought my cat in on a Saturday and had him examined by Dr. Ruiz. Both the tech and the doctor seemed in a hurry due to over-booking or under-staffing. My cat was taken to the back to have some diagnostic procedures performed, when the doctor returned we were told he had somehow escaped during the procedure the tech grabbed him by the head and was bitten, breaking the skin. I was allowed to bring him home but was required by law to return him to St. Francis or bring him to ACS to be quarantined. My cat was denied medical care by them not giving him the medicine he was supposed to be taking, he became so upset he did not eat or drink until after closing. Even after ten days I had to fight to get my cat back, and make them adhere to the price I was promised, I received my cat back malnourished, dehydrated and sick along with the extra expense incurred by their tech's reckless behavior. My cat never had rabies but was treated as if he were a rabid feral cat that had attacked their tech.

I was new to SA and needed to find a vet for my golden retreiver and found this vet. The first time I brought him there they were very good with him so I continued to bring him for about 1 1/2 years until something horrible happend. I had him boarded at a different facility and brought him home and noticed he was breathing weird so we brought him to an emergency clinic since it was Sunday and they diagnosed him with a punctured lung. So the next day picked him up to bring him to his regular vet (this one) and told us it'll heal on its own and it'll take a few days, so we brought him home and he wasnt getting any better so the next day we brought him back and they did xrays and said he still had fluid around there but not that much and we just need to give it time to heal and have him heal where the emergency vet put needles in him to get the liquid out. So again we go home and he's getting worse so we call the vet again let them know that something isnt right, he's not eating, drinking, sleeping, and wont even lay down and the vet told us to come pick up this shot to give him that will ease his pain so we did. It did nothing so we called back and the vet said he's just going to have to suck it up and deal with the pain it'll only last a few more days. The next morning came around and my dog could hardly walk, breathe, and was foaming at the mouth so i called the vet and told them im bring my dog in and told them whats happening. We got him there, caried him in and his vet wasnt there so the vet there that day took him back and came back out and said were going to refere you to this other clinic near stoneoak but I'm just letting you know he probably wont make it. 5 min later get called back to the back where they had him and the vet was doing chest compressions to him and giving him a shot in the heart to revive him which didnt work. Standing there seeing my 5 year old golden died brought me to my knees, I couldnt believe my dog that i considered my child was dead and i looked up at the vet and asked what happend and all he did was look at me and say "i dont know". Instead of bringing me back to a room to discuss what next, right after he was dead they asked so what do you want to do with him. I decided on cremation and left with so much hatred and hurt. Went to go pick him up when it was ready and get there and they bring out a wood box and the bill, so i ask them i left here with him still wearing his colar and tag and leash and she said, oh they probably cremated that too so it's all in there. Never again will i go back there b/c i never again want to watch a pet of mine dying but be told he's fine he needs to suck it up.

We have been clients of St Francis for 4 years now. They have taken care of our two Golden Retrievers, having shown a caring attitude towards them, as well as answering all our questions about their care, and treating the oldest’s ailments with knowledge and expertise. Our impression of them changed when our oldest Golden passed away very recently. When my husband picked up the remains, he was handed the container over the counter, in the lobby full of people, with no privacy, just as if they were handing him a box full of medications. A doctor came out to the lobby to attend to another patient, and upon realizing what was going on, just by chance, gave my husband her condolences. There was no concerted effort to ensure privacy, to allow for grieving, to show empathy, to offer condolences. Everything was haphazard and careless. Picking up a pet's remains, a dear friend and companion, is another stab of pain after the loss. The proper procedure is to bring the owner into a private room where the remains are presented in a dignified way, proper condolences are given, and the owner is left to grieve for as long as necessary, in solitude. Our daughter, after losing her Miniature Pinscher, was given this respectful treatment by a caring cremation service. We should expect nothing less from a Vet Clinic. How lucky you were, Elwardo, that your pets were treated with the dignity and respect they deserved upon their passing. Since then, the staff at St Francis have probably gotten too busy, or did not regard our Golden important to them. To add insult to injury, we were charged for not only the cremation charges, which we were expecting, but for the full diagnostic and resuscitation fees. He passed away while in their care, after my husband brought him in after finding him lethargic and not wanting to eat. After doing blood work and X-Rays, he went into severe cardiac failure and could not be resuscitated. We are not blaming them for his death, not at all, since we are aware they did everything they could for him, but the compassionate thing to do would have been to waive those charges, or at least cut them in half, in view of the fact that he died on their examining table. This would not have bankrupted them, but it would have shown empathy towards our pain. I guess greed and a lack of sensitivity took over instead. We will be changing vets after this. We cannot think of setting foot in that office after the uncaring and insensitive way our beloved Golden was treated.

I have used St. Francis of Asissi for care of my pets (dogs and cats) since they opened their door. First let me say that their prices are very reasonable. But beyond price is the dedication, caring and compassion of their entire staff of doctors and technicians and the office staff. They have helped me through numerous tough decisions regarding the loss of several pets over the years as well as well as maintaining the health and longevity of my current pets. They suffered through my losses with me and welcomed my new arrivals. I could not give a more exemplary recommendation for this animal care facility and their staff. In brief statement - St. Francis of Asissi ROCKS!!!!!
