A group of 6 of my friends and I went here for lunch on a weekday.
The customer service was excellent. The food prices were reasonable. Our food came out fairly quickly. Overall all my friends were satisfied.
I had the Pueblo Burger. It was good but I was expecting more. It’s supposed to be “HOT”. Maybe it’s hot for non-Texas folks. The homemade chips that came with it were nothing special.
I will go back.

Delicious...everything is great but that's my favorite. Even a simple dinner salad is yummy.

Not as fabulous as the old location, but still great fried chicken, rolls, and pie. The other food is excellent, too. But I always choose the same delicious chicken.

Bad service

We went in and it felt like we were invisible to the hostess. We had to ask her if we could seat ourselves. Then after we sat down no one ever came to our table. They went to other peoples table that got there after us. We left and ate somewhere else. The hostess/ cashier seemed to not care or notice. It was very disappointing.

Memory Lane

I havn't been to Texas since 1968 but I am so happy to know that Earl Abel's Restaurant is still in operation! I worked there briefly in 1968 before my Military husband was deployed to Vietnam. I believe the World's Fair was just down the road and we did a bustling business. I absolutely loved working there. The people were great, the food was fantastic and it was about the nicest restaurant I had been to. I left employment abruptly when the Hostess brought me a party of 15 to wait on. I could bearly stand the smell of food because I was newly pregnant and was having morning sickness. All these years later I still have fond memories of working there and even remember the names of some of the other employees. Tonight I found my old name tag and a menu from 1968 which prompted me to google Earl Abel's.

I have lived in California all these years - but I have never forgotten what a great place Earl Abel's was, and looks like still is. If I ever return to Texas, I will definitely put Earl Abels' on my route. Stay in business!!!

Thursday afternoon about 15 of...

Thursday afternoon about 15 of my lady friends and I came in to have our monthly lunch with the Betty Ford Group. Erin was our server and she was fantastic. She described all the dishes we had questions about and helped us choose the perfect lunch entree. The food took a little longer than we had planned on, but Erin brought us out dinner rolls and crackers until our entrees were ready. We never had to ask for refills and she did not rush our lunch. Most of us were too full for dessert, but she recommended we take a slice of cake or pie home, which I was very excited about later that evening. We were each on our own separate tickets and Erin had no problems keeping us all separate and she had exact change for all of us. We have this luncheon almost every month and we would like to have Erin every time. She is by far the best waitress we have ever had!!!!! Thank you very much for such a perfect lunch and we will be back next month.

Ignorant people's reviews

I don't think alot of these people that are leaving negative reviews are really educated in the history of Earl Abels. THe old location had been there for many many years and back in the 50s it was THE place to go to. So, naturally as these youngsters from the 50's grew up, they continued to go there because they had always gone there. So, the whole geriatric vibe that you get when you go there has just been explained. If you grew up going somewhere and it was still open when you were a senior, wouldn't you want to go and relive your youth? I have never once experianced anything bad there and their food has always been great. The chicken fried steak is huge and you definatly get your money's worth on that. Maybe some of the waitresses are in their 70's, but that brings us back to the whole fact that its been a san antonio favorite for many many years. Maybe some of these reviews are written by people that haven't been a Texan for very long. GO HOME YANKEES

The good, the bad, and the unimaginable

Earl Abel's is still the best fried chicken in town. If you go there, only order that and pie to go. The rest of the menu has gone from ok to horrible. The service has gone downhill as well. Actually, I would recommend you just order your chicken as take out and pick it up. At least you won't have to worry about the service in your own home! I used to go to the original place with my grandfather and get the fried chicken all the time. I remember a place that always had old people but good service and good food. Too bad that is not the case anymore.

Great American Food

I've eaten at Earl Able's al lot. The chicken is very good, the service is good, and I've always been satisfied.

I've also gotten their take out because it's quick and easy and hot when I get it home.

I recommend Earl Able's Restaurant
