Ultrasound is very useful in diagnosing injuries of soft tissue structures such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Some bone, joint and cartilage injuries may also be identified but other tests like MRI’s and CT scans may be more effective for these areas. Dr. Zaharoff is a board certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician also known as a “Physiatrist” (fizz-AYE-a-trist). She is a specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine and among only a handful of Physiatrists in the nation who combines a comprehensive team approach with a variety of treatments. Treatments include: physical therapy, diagnostic ultrasound, prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma injections, acupuncture and electroceuticals to treat muscle, nerve, bone and joint problems for acute, chronic and recurrent injuries. Common examples of musculoskeletal problems include ankle and knee sprains, muscle strains, shoulder dislocations or rotator cuff problems, bursitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, hip tendinitis, low back pain, neck pain, ankle pain and overuse injuries such as tendonitis and stress fractures.

MRI
I took a blood test, and had an MRI for the knee, and started PRP treatments. Today about a year later, I can honestly say the treatment was a success. About two weeks ago I took a one hour walk on the ranch, and had no pain or discomfort. Just last weekend, my 25-year-old daughter came to visit from Duke University, and wanted to walk around the ranch, so off we went. I even had to climb up earthen banks about 20 feet high, and then descend on the other side. Success! No pain or discomfort.

“I’ve had nonstop occipital headache/neckache for 33 years following 2 car accidents. One whiplash, one slow rollover with no seatbelt. A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan, Dr. Zaharoff completed her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1987. She has maintained a private practice in San Antonio since 1987. Dr. Zaharoff is a former professional tennis player actively involved with the U.S. Tennis Association. Dr. Zaharoff is a featured blogger for mysantonio.com and South Texas Tennis Association magazine. She continues to write for a numerous of publications and lectures on a variety of topics related to health and fitness.
