Dissapointment

Date: Saturday 11/1/08, 5:00 PM

Having eaten at Casa Rio through the years and receiving excellent food, I am disappointed at their current state of operation. My wife and I were seated by the river and ordered a Taco Salad for her and a Chili Relleno (CR) for me. The CR was advertized to be deep fried. It wasn’t. It was covered with cheese and broiled enough to melt the cheese. The meat inside was lukewarm and not too tasty. Thinking it was just a fluke and had been sitting around; I had it replaced with a “fresh” one. It had a bit more cheese and melted more but was otherwise the same. Not in the mood for cold Mexican food, I questioned the waitress if they had anything hot. She recommended Fajitas so I accepted thinking it would be hard to mess them up since they are customarily served on a sizzling hot metal plate. Wrong again! The Fajitas came on a cold glass plate with the similar lukewarm meat and vegetables. The waitress, gun shy by now, deposited the plate and promptly disappeared.

My wife’s experience was no better. She generally does not complain about bad food, leaving that to me. However, the meat was the same lukewarm fajita meat I had with my order and the greens had the flavor of bagged lettuce. She knows the flavor well and will not use it for the family. She did not like it a bit. In addition, it was not served with the customary sauces and it took us four tries to get some to the table. Only after my Fajitas arrived and she was half way through her Taco Salad, did her sauce arrive

On the positive side, they still have a great, albeit expensive, Margarita Grande. And to their credit when I spilled a portion of it, they replaced it free of charge without us asking. The waitress tried to be accommodating with our meals but could only serve what was prepared.

All in all it was a bad experience in light of the excellent food we have received there in the past. Any restaurant can have a bad dish or a bad day and I usually overlook these. However, when they obviously keep food around in warmers and serve it as fresh, this is policy. It is how food is served at sporting events. I suppose with the captive audience on the River Walk they feel they can abandon their long standing traditions, comfortably rest on their laurels and become another tourist trap free from the rigors of turning out good hot fresh food consistently. I hope they turn around. It used to be a good place.

Crappy Service!

Went to Casa Rio tonight for dinner... it looked nice, too bad it did not end up nice!

Still fuming... asked my waiter where the bathroom was, gone less than 5 minutes! The busboy cleared my table of my dinner (only 1/2 eaten) and a full platinum margarita, and was seating someone else at my table when I got back!

Waiter was mortified, tried to get me a new table and drink, manager said "sorry for the confusion, no charge, but no tables available... you can leave!"

Waiter was good, but manager did not care at all... disgusted... thank god it was my first time, it will certainly be my LAST!!!

After looking for authentic Mexican food we landed here and was welcomed by the best waiter Zappo...he was very knowledgeable and very polite with our food request and even talked us into some favorite drinks from the local area. My girlfriend and I rate this place a 5 stars for great food and awesome wait staff...great location on the river walk also. Thanks Zappo!

Hair in 2 out of 4 plates

Took out of town guest to lunch today and food was taste less and then my grand daughter found hair in her beef enchiladas. Then I looked at my food she and I both ordered the same plate and guess what there was more hair in my plate then in her's the waiter offered to bring her another plate 25 minutes later so by the time her plate got there she had already lost her appetite and so had I. Even though they removed her plate and half off of mine the bill but for two other plates and 1coke 2 teas still came out to $29.00 not including the tip. It was really bad service and bad food. The manager was very pleasant but.like i said the waiter Sapo I'm sure could have brought out our plates to our table sooner, cause by the time they got to us the food was semi warm not hot

Really Nice View Ok Food

The view of the river walk was great and the outside dining we really enjoyed. The drinks were very expensive and the food was about a 5 out of 10. Just "ok" Mexican. Food.

baD servicE

We were seated indoors and all we could listen to were the staff members gossiping. Our server would forget that we were still there and it would take us a while to get noticed. The food was too salty and the rice was hard. I would not go back again. I though it was going to be a good restaurant.

Casa Rio

This restaurant is favored with an ideal location on the River Walk where you can enjoy a table just a few feet away from the river. The Mexican cusine is authentic, service is good, and the price is quite reasonable. I definitely would recommend this for lunch or dinner while in the area.
