I am very grateful for Dr. Teresa Brothers.

Other doctors just gave me medicine and didn't care. She took the time to listen to me and helped me very much. Thank you, Dr. B!

Absolute dissapointment, both the staff and the doctors. The staff are inefficient, rude, incompetent. Dr. Javen Cavazos simply throws people meds to their face without listening and considering your concerns. She doesn't take into account your comorbidities and she doesn't do a thorough assessment. It is because of people like her thst disgraces the medical profession and the stigma psychiatrists carry for doing exactly what she does. I don't know how MDs like her received a medical license. It's extremely frustrating and quite dangerous to end up in the hands of people like her and her staff. The reviews show a very common pattern. DO NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEM. Your health is important and should be taken seriously.

This is the worst place my wife has ever been for mental health help in her life. The business is not concerned with their patients, only their bottom line. My wife was in a hospital in College Station for an acute bipolar episode for nearly a month but her doctor at AMHG could not find one moment of time to discuss her case with the doctors at the hospital she was in even after they asked me over and over to contact him, which I did over and over. The doctor at AMHG, Dr. Fabre, would not even return my phone calls as I was frantic about my wife's condition. He could care less. Don't waste your money or your health.

I have had NOTHING but issues with this place since day 1. I started taking my son here 3 months ago to get help with his ADHD simply because my insurance referred me. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE TO A SINGLE PERSON. Front staff is RUDE, and completely disregard anything you tell them. I got an appointment reminder on a sunday (mind you they're closed) and immediately called the office to reschedule the appt that was set for the next day. I left a message with the on call staff, and when the front desk called me back on monday morning she refused to listen to anything i said and repeated "You'll have to talk to the dr. im charging you $65 for cancelling the appt". HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO RESCHEDULE 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE WHEN YOU'RE CLOSED ON A SUNDAY!!! Not only did i deal with a rude girl over the phone, i then got a call from the dr who yelled about how i treated her staff. YOU'RE KIDDING ME RIGHT?!?! How unprofessional can you be? I have gladly found another doctor and ill be damned if i spend another dime at this office. They dont care about anything but money, so if you're looking for help, keep looking!

Overall
poor and unprofessional conduct

starting with the staff very rude I was not able to place an appointment unless I gave them a credit card number then came the doctor never gave me eye contact didn't want to hear what was with my problems he just kept on writing and gave me the same medication as my previous Dr did I asked for help I was going thru so much and they all told me the same thing they have no hot lines I ask what hospital if I needed to go to they responded they go to no hospital but they sure took my money and made sure i understood all the cost if I miss an appointment the first visit is $100 the rest your $65I left there crying feeling horrible worse than when I came inI was surely convinced that there were no doctor that could really help me or care .a little act of kindness would have been great they forgot that they're there for us and they forgot the concept of what it means and the concept of being a care giver providers staff. as soon as I can put my thoughts together I will write to the mayor and to the congressman and I encourage everyone that is going through the same thing with this institute to write to your mayor and congressmen and to Mr Castillo who is supposed to be over all of this institute. its too bad that our insurance doesnt allowus to keep the good doctors. i had a great psychiatrist and counselor who truly cared and listened. Thank you God for helping me and kept me alive.

Overall
Dr. Teresa Brothers worst psychiatrist ever!!!!!!

So far the front office staff have been very professional and courteous, BUT Dr. Brothers should be avoided at all cost... This lady is so unprofessional and makes you think it's your fault for your troubles, as the moment I sat down she started asking questions and rolled her eyes and scolded me like a child to all my answers!... OMG I asked the front to change my Dr quickly as possible , now I have an appt with another dr, and hopefully he will be totally opposite , Mr Odio is by far the best psychologist I have been too:)

Do not, do not go to this medi...

Do not, do not go to this medical group!!!! I have so much to say about this groups practices, the lack of respect from the receptionists and billing group. It's all about money. My brother in law is a physician and my sister is a psychologist and they are appalled at the way Alamo Mental Group operates. Shame on you!!!!

I have had nothing but horribl...

I have had nothing but horrible experiences with Alamo Mental Health Group. I believe it is there office staff who are sufficiently underqualified. I have seen two doctors while I have been going to Alamo Mental Health Group and still am currently a patient there. I have had terrible experiences while being a patient here for over two years. The Doctor I am seeing now is awesome but her office staff are terrible and this has been the experience with my other doctor as well. The office staff never returns your calls or voicemails. They also act very inconvenieced when you are needing information. They rarely relay messages to the doctors. They will tell you they have taken care of medication refills and then when you go to the pharmacy they have no record of calls from the Alamo Mental Health Group. I have exhausted all resources with the office staff in informing them of their failing duties. I have never been obscene or vulgar or disrespectuful to any of the office staff or the doctors but still they treat me like I am the dirt they walk on. I am very dissapointed in the way the office staff handles calls and their phone/people skills. Since this is one of the few Mental Health Offices that accepts my insurance I have been painfuly seeking treatment here. I wish that there were more options with other mental health groups because I am absolutely tired of the lack of effort the office staff puts in day in and day out. I have visited with others in the waiting room and they seem like they have been given the same lack of respect that I have been given.

Overall
Incompetent billing dept; constantly change stories about everything

Every visit they kept saying my deductible was not met, then they said it would be fixed but every time it was the same thing. Doc said no need for office visit to refill script, then when I called for refill she changed her mind and I could either see her that day or in a few weeks. Made appt for that day, called to check on copay and was told I had an additional balance I would have to pay that day which I could not afford. They then told me since I could not afford to pay it, they would charge me $65 for a missed appt (keep in mind appt was only made a few hours prior and they forced me into it if I wanted my meds). After hours on the phone with insurance, they kicked me out of the office and told me they had changed their mind about accepting payment arrangements and that I would need to make an additional hour long round trip with 2 kids under 2 just to pay the balance before I could get my script. They wouldn't wait 2 weeks for an insurance mistake to get fixed, they wanted money right then and there. Then when I came back to pay the final balance, they tried to charge me a higher amount. Incompetent, care only about money and will inconvenience you in any way they can to get it. I will not be back.

A Horrible Staff

I was put on a month long waiting list, but assured that my insurance was okay and I was ready to be seen. So, I waited because I wanted to go to a place that had specialists. When I showed up, they told me they had tried to call me (even though I show no records of a call on my phone bill) and that Dr. Brioles had decided to turn me down because I didn't answer my phone and he was "picky about stuff like that."

When I said that I didn't understand why he would turn me down for not answering my phone, they said it was because I cancelled.

Bottom line, they seem very confused and were very unprofessional. I still don't know if the doctor turned me down or there was some sort of clerical error, but I don't recommend going here unless you want a giant headache.

Dr is Good. / Customer service dept, not so much

The title says it all.

I met with Dr Walter Root after not having seen a Doctor in quite some time.

I was not feeling very well at all, and Dr Root sorted me out in a very "down to earth", empathetic way. It was just what I was looking for. Even when I had some questions for the Dr, right after I switched meds, he was quick to respond to my voice mail that I left for him.

So that's the good part.

The bad part is that you must deal with the front office staff in order to see the Dr.

I don't know what the deal is about getting in to see a Psychiatrist, but the wait is downright painful. I called in July and was told the nearest "1st consultation" wasn't available until September.

Thank goodness I wasn't any more on edge than I was. I was lucky enough to find a slot that someone had vacated the day I called. That appointment was for 2 weeks out.

Having lack of a choice, I jumped at the chance.

At any rate, if you can negotiate the front office staff hurdles, you might be in good shape.

So my actual review is Dr Walter Root: 5 Stars

front office staff: Well, if you cannot say anything nice about someone, it's best left unsaid. You do the math.

Good luck!
