In 1989, I started Preferred Standard Interiors which became a very successful interior design/ build firm.We even held a General Contractor license. I sold the business in 1998 after 10 successful years..As a project manager/site supervisor (NYC Construction License No: 2149-- perhaps the only woman in Manhattan), I worked in the famous Madison Avenue 5-Star hotel-- The Carlyle. I oversaw the conversion of hotel rooms into privately owned condos, while the hotel was fully occupied; some days managing a hundred workman, deliveries, vendors, plus installations of finishes, furnishing, and equipment. All this while respecting the privacy of and not disturbing the VIP guests.And as an owner's representative, I was responsible for managing for one of the largest real estate developers in the south eastern My first degree was way back in 1987 in Interior Design, long before CAD, email, or cell phones. Nobody can teach in a school what I have learned working on construction sites, like-- not assuming anything, not overlooking the smallest details, that CAD is not perfect, what to do when there is not enough time & money, how not to make mistakes how to correct mistakes, so on and so on.I was in Napa, CA just the other day at a resort that is really in need of a face lift.After the presentation, the General Manager (who has been through a few hotel renovations) said to me:”Well, you surely know the Nuts and Bolts of this business"My reply: “Yes, sir. I do.”
