Because we use the latest technology, our metal-free restorations are created with high quality porcelain and composite resin materials that are as durable as metal, but are also natural looking and mercury-free. None of the resins we use contain BPA, a substance occasionally found in sealants and plastic filling materials that may cause cancer.

Fillings
Materials once used in dentistry, namely silver amalgam fillings, contain small amounts of mercury. This metallic element can lead to health problems, and some professionals believe that the body can slowly absorb this element over time. This is one reason why we practice metal-free dentistry, so you can be rest assured that you are undergoing the safest dental procedures available.
Resin Composite
Veneers
Teeth whitening products use bleaches (either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) to break stains into smaller pieces, which make them harder to see and make your teeth brighter. These bleaches do not work on all teeth, so it is important to consult your dentist before any treatment. Whitening will not be effective on caps, veneers, crowns, fillings or if the color is caused by medications or injury.

Typically when we need to replace teeth, we use crowns. Crowns are artificial teeth. They can be placed right over your broken teeth. They will also fit in the space where your teeth are missing.

The bad thing about getting crowns is that it takes time. If your teeth are missing, we will have to place implants in, which will act like new roots for your crown. There are times when we place a temporary crown in your mouth while we wait for your crown and implants to be made. This can be quite painful.

Kimberly is a native of Rutland, Vermont. She graduated from Rutland High School in 2001 and has been in dentistry for ten years. She has two years experience in oral surgery and has worked in general dentistry with Dr. Hottenstein, DMD, FAGD since 2007.

General Dentistry
Joyce volunteered for 8 years as the Secretary for the Vermont State Dental Society. Joyce also is an active volunteer for the Red Logan Free dental clinic where she is an adjunct professor to senior dental students from Tufts, UNE, BU and Harvard. She is the current president of the Vermont AGD, the premier association for continuing education. She is also a member of the ADA, Vermont state Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, Ecodentistry Association, International College of Dentists, the American Equilibration Society, and RV Tucker Study Clubs. She is a Pankey dentist with The Pankey Institute and has completed a one-year Oral Facial Pain continuum through LSU dental school. She also maintains active memberships with the DAR and Rotary International.
