Carpal Tunnel SyndromeCarpal Tunnel Syndrome. This is a very common condition that is typically caused by overuse and repetitive movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists, and may also be associated with pregnancy. Symptoms include pain, numbness/tingling, and weakness in the wrist and hand, especially in the thumb, index and middle fingers.
UltrasoundThe first goal of treatment is to reduce pain. Modalities such as heat, ice, ultrasound, electric stimulation, phonoporesis, and inotophoresis can assist in decreasing inflammation and pain.
SciaticaLeg symptoms associated with low back pain can be attributed to nerve irritation that occurs in the lumbar spine. The location and severity of leg symptoms (including pain, numbness, and tingling) depends on the spinal level and amount of inflammation present. Leg symptoms can be a result of many spinal diagnoses including a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome and sciatica to name a few. One of the main goals of treatment is to centralize any leg symptoms to the problem area in the low back. Your therapist will give you a variety of stretches and exercises to accomplish this goal.
WhiplashWhiplash. A neck condition typically associated with the trauma of a car accident caused by overstretching of muscles, ligaments, and joints in the neck.
Pinched NerveNeck pain (cervical spine) and mid back pain (thoracic spine) are common conditions treated Rochester Sports and Physical Therapy. Neck and mid back pain may be caused suddenly from a motor vehicle accident or caused gradually over time due to repeated movements and sustained postures associated with daily or work-related activities. Neck pain may be localized to the cervical spine or may manifest itself as symptoms in the arm or hand. Pain, tingling, and numbness are examples of symptoms that may appear in the arm as a result of a pinched nerve. Sometimes problems in the upper neck region produce headaches, dizziness, and even nausea. Mid back pain may be localized to the thoracic spine or may refer pain to more distant regions of the spine, rib cage, or shoulders and arms. Listed below are some of the more common conditions treated at Rochester Sports and Physical Therapy...

Heel SpursPlantar Fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is characterized by pain on the heel due to inflammation and straining of the plantar fascia, the thick, tough covering at the bottom of the foot. Some of the reasons for developing plantar fasciitis are participating in high impact activities or wearing inappropriate footwear. A foot spur may be produced. This can be determined by a doctor taking an x-ray of the heel. The heel spur may be inflamed and tender to touch.

Also known as Adhesive Capsulitis, this condition occurs when there is inflammation in the shoulder that causes a restriction in the normal range of motion and pain with most movements. The joint capsule develops adhesions that must be stretched before normal function is restored.
Tennis ElbowLateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow) and Medial Epicondylitis (Golfer’s Elbow). These describe inflammation of the tendons surrounding the elbow. Both conditions are typically overuse injuries and can be very painful to touch and with elbow and/or wrist movement. Lateral epicondylitis involves the outside of the elbow and is most painful when the wrist is pulled. Medial epicondylitis involves the inside of the elbow and can be felt when the wrist is curled.
