Travel the extra distance and go somewhere else where doctors truly demonstrate compassion!!
As a cancer patient, I have been battling with repeated infections and Lymphedema for several months. Within an 8 week period I was admitted twice to Northern Dutchess Hospital. The first admission resulted in a hospitalist and specialist collaborating on my care with both listening to me as well as involving me in the decisions. However, upon my second admission, the admitting doctor was condescending insisting from the beginning I had never been there because they found no records of any previous visits or admissions. I began the long tedious tale of my medical history including the reason for my visit to the ER which was a reoccurrence of Cellulitis. Upon explaining I also have issues with Lymphedema, I was immediately silenced with his verbal disbelief and denial of Lymphedema. This was despite my indication of how I had been treating with a specialist for this since February 2014 and records would confirm my statement. He was curt, arrogant and stated he should just send me home with antibiotics despite the excruciating pain I was experiencing. During my stay he continuously disagreed with my specialist who had been treating me for cellulitis over the past three months. He repeatedly cut me off when he would stop by to see how I was doing, completely dismissing my explanation of how I was feeling. His exams were a joke as he would quickly peak at one corner of the area or not at all and comment that it looked fine. When he requested records from my primary care physician who is not treating me for this condition, rather than my oncologists and infection disease doctor, it confirmed he was not listening to me. If he was he would've requested records from the physicians treating me for thus condition to be better prepared to treat me. Needless to say and to make an already long story short, I would refuse to be treated by him or preferably travel the extra distance and go somewhere else. To summarize, as I've started to tell my tale to numerous individuals who work at the hospital, they immediately know this physician by name before I can provide it and all say he is more concerned with being "God" in the medical field that actually listening or caging for his patients. Further comments are that he is arrogant and detached from any opinion that doesn't coordinate with his own. Don't waste your time.....NDH is more concerned with its appearance than the care it provides it's patients!
