General Info: We have a friendly new veterinary center designed with the family patient in mind and comfort being the central theme for all concerned. We have separate dog and cat patient wards, respiratory, blood pressure, oxygen, and heart rhythm anesthetic monitoring devices, and a separate isolation ward. This full service hospital also has the ability to refer to local specialists in the area if needed. For a list of hospital services provided see below in the Services section. Our House Call Service provides in-home veterinary medical care to residents in the South Bay and Santa Monica/Beverly Hills areas. Services include, but are not limited to, wellness check-ups, travel and health certificates, vaccinations, laboratory testing, special geriatric care, pain management, internal parasite and flea control, acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine, chiropractic, dispensing of antibiotics and presription skin care shampoos and in-home euthanasia.

Preventive Care

Dental Care
Tooth decay and gum disease can cause pain, difficulty chewing, bad breath and red, inflamed gums. If dental problems aren't treated promptly, your pet may lose teeth or develop a bacterial infection. Dental infections are dangerous because they can travel to other areas of your pet's body. Your pet's veterinarian may recommend dental work, if needed, and/or a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar.
Vaccination
Just like people, pets need regular medical care to stay healthy. In addition to detecting health problems, such as diabetes and kidney failure, regular veterinary visits help ensure that your pet receives vaccinations that prevent common diseases, such as rabies, distemper, bordetella, parvovirus, adenovirus, feline leukemia and canine influenza. Veterinarians can also offer helpful advice on behavioral issues and provide suggestions that will help your overweight pet lose weight.
Comprehensive Examination
When you arrive in our practice, you will be greeted by our friendly front desk staff. They will ask you to fill out a form concerning questions about your pets’ history and presenting concerns if you have not already done so from our website. Once the necessary information is received and entered you and your pets will be guided by one of our technicians into an exam room to take additional history and vital signs. They will weigh your pet, take the temperature, and ask you a series of questions related to your pet’s health. The information will then be relayed to the doctor, who will perform a complete physical examination, answer any questions you might have, and formulate a treatment plan for the benefit of your family member.

Megaesophagus. The condition occurs when the esophagus can't push food into the stomach because it's unable to contract normally. Megaesophagus can be present from birth or can be caused by a foreign object or certain diseases, such as autoimmune diseases, hypothyroidism or myasthenia gravis.
Heart Disease Treatment
Dr. Brewer will perform evaluations as our referral Cardiologist. He is a native of southern California, growing up in Long Beach where he attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and later graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychobiology. Later, he received his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2009. Following the 4 years at Cornell University, he completed a 1-year general rotating internship at the California Animal Hospital Veterinary Specialty Group in West Los Angeles with Dr. Stephen J. Ettinger. This was followed by a 3 year Cardiology residency at Cornell University, where he was trained to perform minimally invasive interventional procedures such as pacemakers, balloon valvuloplasties, and PDA occlusions. He has a keen interest in electrophysiology, has extensively studied the canine sinus node, and has published in veterinary medical journals. Additionally, he is experienced in the management of complex arrhythmias and the treatment of refractory heart failure.
Kidney Disease Treatment
As your pet grows older, he or she may develop a range of diseases and conditions associated with aging, such as obesity, diabetes, arthritis and kidney disease. Dr. Linda Larson is our referral surgeon for most of our orthopedic cases. She received her degree from the University of Minnesota, college of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She continued her advanced training through a one year rotating medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine; followed by a three year surgery residency and Master of Science (MS) degree program at Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of her residency Dr. Larsen accepted a one year clinical instructorship position at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine where she trained residents, interns and students in small animal surgery. She then returned home to California entering private referral practice in 1999 and opening PVSS in November, 2006.
