Vaccination
A virus which is shed in the saliva of infected animals. It causes neurologic disease in affected animals and is always fatal. All mammals are susceptible to rabies. Vaccination is required by law due to the risks of humans contracting the disease from their pets.
Nutritional Counseling
Special Diets - We carry Hill's and Royal Canin prescription diets for dogs and cats. In addition, we carry Harrison's Bird Diets, Nurti-an Cakes (foraging weight management) for birds, Critical Care for small rodents and reptiles. We can special order and Purina prescription diets for dogs and cats.
Comprehensive Examination
An annual physical examination is essential for the long term well-being of all your pets, no matter the species. This allows us to prevent many diseases or treat diseases in the early stages before they become life threatening. A new pet should be taken to your veterinarian as soon as possible. At Wildwood Veterinary Hospital, we emphasize client education along with an annual examination to provide the best health care for your pets. If your pet is exhibiting any signs or behaviors which are unusual, consult your veterinarian as soon as possible, do not wait for their next annual exam.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Intestinal parasites are very common and can lead to many problems. Parasitic infections can be diagnosed with a microscopic fecal exam.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Panleukopenia: "Feline distemper" = A virus found in the same family as the parvovirus found in dogs. It causes severe depression, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and death.

Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Grooming: Dogs can be washed up to twice a month using a mild, hypoallergenic shampoo. Be careful not to over-shampoo your dog. This can strip the natural oils in the dog's coat, causing irritation to the skin. Dips and flea shampoos can cause problems for some individuals and should be used with caution. Puppies over 8 weeks old can be bathed with mild shampoos which are specifically labeled for use on puppies. Also, brushing to remove excessive hair and prevent matting should be done on a regular basis. Large mats are painful and can lead to many serious skin problems.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
A bacteria which causes conjunctivitis (eye infections) and upper respiratory disease. The vaccine may be beneficial for multiple cat households.

Infection Treatment

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis: A bacteria carried by wild rodents, farm animals, and unvaccinated dogs and is passed in the urine. It can cause severe kidney disease.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Parvo Enteritis: A virus which attacks the cells lining the gastrointestinal tract and suppresses the immune system. Early signs include vomiting and diarrhea, often with blood, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Without treatment, it is often deadly. Parvovirus is shed in the feces and is very resistant to environmental breakdown. The virus is stable in the environment for over year in direct sun light and over a year and half in the shade. It is commonly seen in puppies, with rottweilers and pit bulls being extremely susceptible.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Common Medical Problems: Iguanas have numerous medical problems in captivity. Bacterial infections are very common and can be due to many reasons. Usually the owner notices a decrease in activity, and decrease in appetite, or a growth (abscess) on the body.

Chronic Condition Treatment

Kidney Disease Treatment
Nutritional disorders are also very common. Diets high in protein can cause kidney failure. Diets low in calcium can cause soft bones which easily break. The lack of a UV-B light can also cause a low calcium level in the blood. In addition to soft bones, low calcium levels can lead to twitching and seizures.

Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Tiffany Azevedo is a California native and received her bachelor’s degree in integrative biology from UC Berkeley. She subsequently completed her veterinary degree at Michigan State University. While in veterinary school, Dr. Azevedo was the president of the Student Association of Veterinary Surgery, and on the board of the student chapters of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and Association of Shelter Veterinarians. She also completed two business certificates and was a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society during this time. She is also bilingual, speaking both English and Mandarin Chinese. Dr. Azevedo has special interests in surgery, dentistry, exotic pets, and behavior (which led to her complete Fear Free training). She is heavily involved in working with rescues, animal shelters, and spends much of her time fostering animals. After practicing veterinary medicine in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Dr. Azevedo relocated back to the bay and currently lives in San Jose with her husband and four cats (Theia, Kronos, Helios, and Asteria). Her interests include hiking, camping, bird watching, SCUBA diving, playing the piano, baking, scrapbooking, and making all sorts of crafts.
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying and Neutering: All cats should be spayed or neutered between 6 to 8 months of age unless they are being bred or shown. Cats do not have regular heat cycles. Instead, female cats will ovulate whenever they are exposed to the hormones of an unneutered male cat. Females are pregnant for approximately two months and can become pregnant again IMMEDIATELY after giving birth. In addition, unspayed female cats are at a greater risk of developing breast cancer than spayed cats. Similarly, unneutered male cats are at a greater risk of developing prostate, colon, rectal, and testicular cancer than neutered males.

Laboratory Services
Diet: Iguanas do best on a herbivorous diet (plants). These animals need foods that are low in protein and phosphorous and high in calcium. Ideally, they should eat predominantly dark leafy greens (dandelion greens, chard, kale, mustard greens, arugula, endive, etc.). Fruit is not recommended because it is high in phosphorous and is very low in calcium. Also, insects are not recommended because they high in protein and fat, and are generally low in calcium. Vitamin supplements are not needed if the reptile is on a good diet. The lizards will grow slower on this diet, but they will be healthier and will live longer. We strongly recommend doing blood tests to make sure the animal is healthy and that their pets blood calcium and phosphorous levels are normal.
X-Ray
Digital Radiography - The use of digital x-ray sensors instead of photographic film for taking radiographs has many advantages. Images can quickly and easily be transferred for review and enhancement. Digital radiography also allows us to take better quality images in a shorter amount of time. This means better diagnosis and less radiation exposure to your pets and our staff. We also send our radiographs to board certified radiologists to review the radiographs. Due to the radiation exposure involved in radiography clients are not allowed to be in the treatment area during x-rays.

Reptile Vet
Recommended Reptiles: Corn snakes, kingsnakes, rosy boas, red tail boas, ball pythons, rat snakes and Savannah monitors make great pets. Always buy a captive-bred reptile. The reptile should be active and already feeding on pre-killed mice or rats. Ideally, the breeder will give a guarantee that gives you plenty of time to have the animal examined by your local reptile veterinarian. Always quarantine any new reptile for at least one month. This will help prevent spreading disease to your other pet reptiles.
