I am rating this location as a two because overall, I have had a good experience. However, it has just gone to "hell in a handbasket", as my mother would say. Speaking of mother, I received a check made out to her c/o me. I took it in to cash it on her behalf and asked how I needed to sign it (my mother has SEVERE Alzheimer's Disease). The bank manger Debbie Lightner said that my mother would need to sign it. I explained again that she has severe Alzheimer's and was unable to sign it, and that I had durable power of attorney and could go and get the legal document and come back. She said that would not work that my mother would need to sign it. That I would have to take the check to mother's bank which is an hour and a half away (Wauna Federal Credit Union, good outfit by the way, just a little far for me to drive). I asked if she was perfectly sure about this, and what if mother didn't have a bank account, and that in the past I have signed on mother's behalf as her "attorney in fact". Still, she said no Wells Fargo would be unable to cash it. I even offered to have her call mother's attorney, but "No" she said. I asked if this was Wells Fargo's official policy, and she said that it was. I asked if she had something in writing detailing this as Wells Fargo's policy and she said she did not. Well, I will take the check to my mother's bank to cash it, but it is a huge inconvenience for me. I think that Ms. Lightner is dead wrong, even though I asked her three times if she was perfectly sure about Well's Fargo's policy and cashing checks with a durable power of attorney. What is the point of people getting an attorney to draw one up if they can not use it? I hope that Ms. Debbie Lightner will be educated. People including bank personnel need to wise up as it relates to Elder Law and Banking, as Alzheimer's is a pandemic which is not going away anytime soon, and I will certainly not be the only one to make this request.
