Established in 1962, Lufkin State School is a 24-hour residential facility for more than 400 people who suffer from of mental and physical disabilities. Located in Pollok, Texas, its services include respite care, habilitation therapies evaluations, wheelchair fabrication and modification, and college and vocational lab training. Its habilitation therapies evaluations service provides speech-language pathology, wheelchair fittings, eating and swallowing analysis, hearing testing, hearing aid evaluation, gait analysis, and physical and occupational therapies analysis. Additionally, Lufkin State School offers on-and off-campus employment opportunities, including sorting, packaging, mail preparation, part cleaning, document destruction, car washing, lawn maintenance, litter control, parking lot maintenance and steam cleaning. The school also offers volunteer programs to provide additional goods and services to the residents of the school. Volunteering opportunities offered include event volunteering, providing live music for the monthly theme dances, hosting a birthday party for a home and taking residents for church services and walks.
