Dr. Herman and her staff,went ...

Dr. Herman and her staff,went above and beyond taking care of my dog, after he ate rat poison. All in all, she saved his life and now he's doing great. He loves going to the Vet!!! I especially liked having the vet call me at home, to review blood work and just check up on Rambo. Her staff is very compassionate and that they love what they are doing. Only place to take a pet on the westside of the valley

Nutritional Counseling

Recognizing the difference between normal changes in mood and red flags can be difficult sometimes. What you interpret as a persistent grumpiness may actually be a sign that your pet is in pain. New irritability, shying away from being touched (especially on the face and around the mouth or throat), sluggishness, loss of appetite or difficulty eating, and lethargy are all behavioral signs which may indicate illness.
Comprehensive Examination
Fecal testing may also be required and so you may be asked to provide a stool sample from your pet. Fecal testing is vital to allow your veterinarian to check for internal parasites which live in your pets’ gastrointestinal tract. These parasites can be deadly in pets and cause health problems for humans. Examples include roundworms and hookworms.As well as a physical examination we will also want to talk to you about your pet’s overall wellbeing. This will include asking about their usual behavior and disposition, their water intake, diet and eating habits, urinating and bowel regularities and activity levels. These will allow us to paint an overall picture of your pets’ health to compliment the physical examination. If this is your first visit to us and we do not detect any underlying health concerns, we can use this information as a basis to represent your pet in a normal state of health. If this is a subsequent visit then we can compare this to their base report and check for any significant changes, which could be early indicators of medical problems.

Dr. Herman graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology. This Foundation gives her the ability to understand how bacteria and viruses can cause disease and affect various organ systems of the body. After graduating with a Doctorate from the Colorado State Veterinary Program, she moved to California. Her goal was to have her own practice and she found the same close community feeling here in Patterson that she had grown up in a small town in Colorado. In 2004 she purchased Patterson Vet Hospital. Her commitment to continuing her education has led to her becoming certified in both Acupuncture and Medical Laser Therapy. This integrative medical discipline has allowed her to provide additional approaches to pain management and healing beyond traditional drugs and surgery. In 2018, she committed the practice to become a certified Fear Free environment, and all the staff is trained and certified in Fear Free protocols.

Although acupuncture has its roots in ancient times before modern scientific methods were available with which to study it, many important studies have been done to indicate how acupuncture works and what physiologic mechanisms are involved in its actions. Using functional MRI (fMRI), to examine 15 different points, the basic tenets of acupuncture have been proven. Those are that acupuncture is based upon the point selected, the method of stimulation, and the duration of stimulation. Stimulation of these points result in specific changes in the central nervous system. It was shown that acupuncture points that have pain relieving properties associated with them tend to activate specific pain-association brainstem regions. The National Institute of Health developed a consensus statement about acupuncture and its efficacy. NIH said that there was compelling evidence that acupuncture was useful in the management of osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal pain.
