Macular Degeneration
Today, researchers are replacing damaged retinal cells with healthy transplants. In clinical trials, researchers have used human stem cells to grow retinal cells that are destroyed by conditions such as macular degeneration or Stargardt disease. One day these stem cells may be used to replace damaged retinal cells and treat these conditions.
Laser Eye Surgery
At Goldman Eye we spare no expense to ensure we have the absolute state of the art equipment for both diagnostic and treatment for LASIK and PRK patients. This includes the Alcon Wavelight Refractive Suite, utilizing the all laser FS200 and EX500 system for a bladeless treatment. In addition, we utilize the Countoura package for topography guided LASIK and are one of the few practices in the United States with the Phorcides enhancement software.
Cataracts
The purpose of your lens is to bend (refract) light rays that come into the eye to help you see. Your own lens should be clear, but with a cataract it is cloudy. Having a cataract can be like looking through a foggy or dusty car windshield. Things may look blurry, hazy or less colorful.
Cataract Surgery
During cataract surgery, your cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. That lens is called an intraocular lens (IOL). We will talk with you about IOLs and how they work.
Eye Exam
A wide variety of microscopes, lense, and digital technology will be used to assess the health of all the structures of the eye and the surrounding tissues. Dilating eye drops are often used to temporarily widen the pupil for better views of the structures inside the eye. In addition to measuring the pressure inside of the eye, this also the part of the eye exam where your doctor of optometry can detect otherwise unknown eye and systemic diseases.

Labor and Delivery
Sometimes, doctors can use part of a human placenta, donated after childbirth, to heal the cornea. They can use the innermost layer of the placenta, called the amniotic membrane, to create a healing bandage. This bandage can be temporary or permanent. These membranes help heal and regenerate surface tissues of the eye. This is called amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT), and it has been used for a long time to heal the sclera and the conjunctiva.
