In September 2014, I took my 2 Winchester pump .22's to Ron's Gun Shop in Oshkosh, Wi. The model 62 quote was $500 and the 06 was $800. I was told the job should take about 3-6 months. After not hearing anything for a year, I called. Finally talked to someone that said they should be done pretty soon. Called and e-mailed many times in the next 8 months. I finally got a call from I found out later, the owner Paul, that he found my guns and would be getting the job done immediately. I told him even though I've waited a long time, I still wanted a very nice job done, and would gladly wait some more for quality work. Paul told me over the phone that is the only type of work his shop does.
I received a call 2 weeks later that the work on my guns was completed and he wanted to set-up a pickup time.
I drove to the Oshkosh store for my restored guns. When I arrived, Paul was talking on the phone and I found guns on the gun rack. To my surprise, the guns weren't done very professional at all. The blueing looked very uneven and I could see spots on the barrels that didn't appear to be sanded out smoothly. I told Paul that I wasn't happy about the job his store did on my guns. He told me that was a very nice job and I didn't really understand what a good job looked like.
One month later I drove down to the Ron's Gun Shop location and showed Paul how one of the barrel's had started to rust already. He pulled out some 0000 steel wool and some lube, and he started rubbing on it. He told me that's all I needed to do. I explained to him that wasn't acceptable. He asked me what I wanted him to do and I explained to do the job right, like we agreed in the first place. He said he don't know what conditions I had put the guns thru before I bought them back. After spending $1300, I wiped the guns down in a light gun oil and placed them in my gun safe that has a functioning dehumidifier rod. Don't do business with this shyster.

Ron's Gun Shop may do quality work but I am still waiting for the results. They have had my shotgun for over 4 months. They do not return phone messages and when I finally did get someone on the phone, it was promised within a week...6 weeks later, still waiting. What a way to run a business!

Nothing but good things to say about Ron's Gun Shop, both in Oshkosh & their new location in Germantown. You get respect the second you walk in the door, they are very knowledgeable in all calibers and makes. Their pricing is well on the fair side, especially compared to local competitors. My business has been going to Ron's Gun Shop for several years now, for simple gunsmith work to complex ground up restorations & builds. Their work is outstanding, they stand behind their work, and they are quite honest in the process!

I went to Ron's gun shop back at the begging of November to get a bolt gun bedded in a new stock. They told me it would take 2-3 weeks and cost about $150. They told me that they would call me if the project went over $200. After the first month I began calling them regularly and they told me every time that it would be completed by the weekend. This went on for several weeks until they eventually got it done in January. When they did finish it the total was $273! I told them that they took way to long and that i was upset that they did not call me when the price went above the quoted estimate. They told me that was just too bad and gave me some b.s. excuses about why it took them so long. I would not recommend Ron's Gun shop for any gunsmith work you need done. They will not be honest about the time frame and they will overcharge you.
