I have represented numerous clients on driving while license suspended charges. A client’s driving while license suspended charge may or may not be a serious case – it depends on the reason for the suspension. If their license was suspended as a result for failure to pay a traffic fine, or failure to pay child support, or some other monetary problem, those cases are usually resolved easily without threat of jail.
Child Custody and Visitation
Citizens do not want a domestic violence conviction on a person’s record. A conviction for those crimes can spill over to litigation in family law involving child custody issues. Also, prospective employers take an exceptionally dim view of applicants with convictions for domestic violence. Licensing entities such as the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and firearms permitting also scrutinize those types of convictions closely.

Mr. Richardson would tell you that some people in the community may have a dim view of criminal defense attorneys – until they need one. When someone gets involved in the criminal justice system, particularly for the first time, it can be an exceedingly traumatic event. Most times people accused of crimes are incarcerated at least for a little while and then will be expected to make a court appearance, at some time, while their case is pending. This can be a nerve racking and daunting experience for people who have gone through the process previously. While lawyers, judges and court personnel are in court every single day, people accused of a crime are not. It is critical to hire a criminal defense attorney who has the time and inclination to prepare citizens accused of a crime for the experience which lies before them. DUI/DWI
If someone has been charged with a DUI they should call my office immediately. They need to take steps to protect their driving privileges. On the heels of a DUI arrest they only have ten days to request a formal review hearing. This is a proceeding where we can attempt to save them from a driver’s license suspension and provides an opportunity to investigate the facts surrounding the arrest more closely.

Probation Violation
A probation violation could lead to your freedom being lost. In Florida, two types of probation are recognized: technical and substantive violations. If an individual breaks one of their probation terms, this will result in a technical violation. A substantive violation occurs when a crime is committed during probation. If an individual is accused of a substantive violation while on felony probation, they are returned to prison while awaiting their hearing. There could also be situations where an individual did not willfully violate their probation. If this occurs, it is essential to have proper legal representation, know your rights, and protect your freedom.
Homicide
It can be exceedingly traumatic to be charged with a crime after acting in defense of yourself or your loved ones. As a criminal defense attorney for more than three decades, I routinely defend against crimes of violence such as assault, homicide, firearms, and weapons charges. I aggressively defend those who reasonably believe they were in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm and subsequently used or threatened deadly force to protect themselves.
Restraining Order
Domestic violence injunctions, or restraining orders, are excellent tools available to those who truly need protection from other individuals. Unfortunately, injunctions are frequently abused in an effort to gain the upper hand in a divorce proceeding, a child custody proceeding or landlord/tenant issue. Citizens do not want to be on the receiving end of a temporary or permanent injunction. This gives the petitioner (the person filing the injunction against a citizen) an inordinate amount of power over their life. They can prevent a citizen from going to certain places or having contact with them or other individuals. In the event they accuse the person with the injunction of violating the injunction, they are subject to a criminal prosecution and criminal sanction.
Internet Crimes
Under Florida law, entrapment is an affirmative defense raised in a criminal case to excuse an otherwise unlawful act. Broadly speaking, entrapment occurs when police have improperly induced to commit a crime with the person induced is not otherwise predisposed to engage in such conduct in the first place. In Florida, the laws of entrapment will often apply in cases involving drug sales, drug trafficking, internet crimes, prostitution, and solicitation of prostitution.
