BracesMore Dietary Choices – Traditional braces often require dietary modifications to avoid appliance breakage. However, with clear, removable aligners diet restrictions are a thing of the past!
OrthodonticsFollowing the general practice residency, Dr. Carlyle decided to pursue a career in the dental specialty of orthodontics. She completed a three-year residency at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, where she received her specialty certificate in orthodontics and her Masters of Dental Science Degree. This specialized program of study prepared her to diagnose, prevent, and treat patients’ dental and facial irregularities.
Invisalign OrthodonticsThe Invisalign system is a series of clear overlay templates – called aligners. The aligners are generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
General DentistryDr. Carlyle obtained a Masters Degree in organic chemistry from the University of California, San Diego prior to receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco with honors. She received several awards for scholastic achievement upon graduation. After graduation from dental school, Dr. Carlyle completed a Residency in General Dentistry at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Jaw SurgeryCorrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) is performed to correct functional problems caused by misalignment of the jaws and/or teeth. Orthognathic surgery in combination with orthodontics corrects major skeletal and dental irregularities.
Tooth ExtractionsYour dentist may have discussed with you that it’s best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required. This is also the recommendation of the American Association of Orthodontists. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and cross-bites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated. When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.
Dental ExaminationAt your new patient exam, we will begin by taking digital photographs of your face and teeth. Dr. Carlyle will then do a thorough exam of your teeth, bite and oral tissues. After which, she will discuss the clinical findings and any areas of concern you may have. The doctor will then recommend treatment options and costs. Available payment options are determined during this visit.
