My mother went in for ankle surgery at 7am on 5/7/12. The surgery was over at 1:30pm she was to be in a room at 2:00 pm. There were no clean rooms available so she had to wait in recovery, which was so backed up that I was only allowed to see her for a few seconds. Beds were shoved in the post-op room to the point you could hardly walk. Fire hazard I am sure. At 10:30pm (9 hours after surgery) she was moved to a room. The room was nasty. I am quite sure there are cleaner by the hour hotels. I found used feminine napkin wrappings in a drawer, no toilet paper, dirty sink and toilet, the floor was so sticky that my shoes stuck to the floor and I walked out of them. The staff however, were very nice and apologetic. They said that the working conditions were horrible, they were always under staffed due to budget cuts (even though they kept the a/c on arctic blast). The staff was embarresed and ashamed to even be working there. The head of housekeeping came down from his office to tell me and the others that he had 8 people call in that day and that he had been riding the two that did show up. He seemed upset that two people could not do the work of 10 ( and should have been 20). So he yelled at them all day when he should have picked up a trash bag and mop and helped solve the problem. The whole hospital seems to operate with this management philosophy. What an embarassment to the University of Oklahoma and the State of Oklahoma for having thier name attached to this "hospital". I felt lucky that my mom came out of there breathing, and her surgery was on her ankle, I can not imagine a brain injury or heart surgery. I would like to caution anyone considering any surgery to ask thier doctor if they practice at an alternative hospital.

Never in my life have I been to a worse hospital then OU Medical Center Neurology Unit. My 82 yr old grandmother fell and cracked her skull open causing bleeding on the brain. She was airflighted from Duncan Regional Hospital, which is almost 2hrs away if you drive to OU Medical Trauma ward. They kept her roughly 10hrs and decided she was not a canidate for surgery on her head to relief the pressure off her brain. At this point my family was told she needed to go back to the nursing home (2hrs away) and they would not provide an ambulance to transport her. She cannot walk or talk due to the pressure on her brain or hold food down. She had to ride 2hrs in a single cab pickup sitting straight up with a cracked skull and bleeding brain because, this hospital refused her to ride in an ambulance in her condition. Does this sound like a caring hospital? Also, very unclean< smells horrible, and they leave meds in the patient rooms for anyone to get their hands on. HORRIBLE
