Ok, so - I called around and these guys had the best price on unscreened topsoil ... BUT ... lowest price isn't always the best way to go. He quoted me a price per load and, being the haggler that I am (who isn't?), I asked him if he would take $10 off the load price if I ordered 2 loads. He says yes.



Next day the delivery guy shows up and bills us the full price. "No biggy" I think - he must've just spaced it, so I call him back. Immediately confrontational, the guy swears up and down that he said no such thing. Well, I know what I said - I know what he said. So I'm trying to be polite about it but then the guy just goes off the handle and starts threatening to put a lien on my house if I don't pay the invoice in full. We're talking about $20 here. A lien... for $20. He starts accusing me of 'trying to pull something' so I asked him why I, his customer, would blatantly lie to save $20 and jeopardize a relationship with a company who is giving me the best price - especially when I still need 5 more loads of dirt. He didn't have any of it. He kept threatening to lien my house and he ALSO said he could legally charge me additional money for the 10 minutes I had held up his driver to resolve this conflict. What a joke!



To boot, we asked the guy if it was ok to postdate the check until tomorrow (one day) so that I didn't have to move money from my savings to checking (I get paid tomorrow) - he agrees...then he IMMEDIATELY goes and cashes the check! Postdating a check does no good if the person cashing it doesn't look at the date - point is, the guy lied to me twice in one day and threatened me with legal action over $20 which he told me he would take off in the first place!



Don't use these guys - they are crooks and they don't care about your continued business. Avoid the headache and pay a few bucks more for dirt.
