Dental Examination
If you are not practicing proper oral hygiene, bacteria can cause inflammation of the gums and trigger bleeding. Your gums may also become swollen, puffy, and red. The early stage of gum disease, or gingivitis, can be reversed with proper treatment and a diligent home care regimen. If left untreated, however, bacteria can break down the gum tissue and eventually cause tooth loss. While there is no cure for periodontal disease, it can be treated with periodontal therapy, regular maintenance cleanings, and a good home care regimen. Dr. Sutton will recommend periodic screenings for gum disease as part of your dental exam.
