Dr. Wakefield enjoys all areas of women’s health care and performs nearly all related procedures. Dr. Geoghegan set her sights on becoming an OB/GYN in high school after seeing the birth of a baby for the first time at a nearby hospital. Fifteen years later, as a practicing OB/GYN, she is still in awe of the birth of a child and finds it an honor to share the experience with families. “Relationships are what life is all about, and I truly enjoy building relationships with my patients and their families,” she says. Dr. Geoghegan is interested in adolescent gynecology and especially interested in infertility care because she herself was once an infertility patient.

Evansville native, Dr. Carrye Daum is a second generation OB/GYN at WHCPC. Dr. Daum is the daughter of WHCPC’s highly-respected Brenda A. Troyer, MD, FACOG. She notes, “My interest in OB/GYN began in my childhood, with my mother as a role model. Her intelligence, compassion, relationships with patients, and the joy that OB/GYN brought her inspired me to follow in her footsteps.” Dr. Daum adds, “Being a mother myself, I have a special interest in obstetrics and sharing these important milestones with my patients and their families. However, I also value the opportunity to care for women through all stages of their lives.”
Endometriosis
There are times when medication and non-invasive procedures do not relieve symptoms. In those instances, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a range of gynecologic conditions. These conditions include, but are not limited to: uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis, cervical and uterine cancer, and menorrhagia (heavy bleeding).

Ovarian Cancer
You might be wondering when you should get a mammogram. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends women 50 to 74 years old get a mammogram every two years. If you’re under 50, talk with your Women’s Health Care PC doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often you should get them. You might need mammograms sooner or more often if breast cancer or ovarian cancer runs in your family. Talk about the risk factors with your doctor, always report any changes you notice with your breasts, like new lumps, changes in shape or size, or any unusual fluid coming from your nipple. If you are at high risk for breast cancer because of your family history, there are medications you can take that have been shown to lower risk. Your Women’s Health Care PC doctor can tell you more about that, too.
Cervical Cancer
Every year, about 12,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with cervical cancer. Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) which is passed from person to person through sexual contact. HPV infection usually goes away on its own, but if it does not, it can lead to cervical cancer if left untreated.
Urinary Tract Infection
Symptoms of UTI or bladder infection include a strong urge to urinate that cannot be delayed — followed by a sharp pain or burning sensation in the urethra when the urine is released. Most often very little urine is released and the urine that is released may be tinged with blood. The urge to urinate recurs quickly and soreness may occur in the lower abdomen, back, or sides.

For six months Dr. Wakefield served in Iraq as a physician for the United States military. He enjoys teaching and was recognized at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, Ky., with the 2009-2010 Preceptor of the Year Award. Dr. Wakefield has presented research at national conferences and is published on the topic of preeclampsia. Also a lecturer and presenter for continuing medical education programs, his presentations have covered Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), birth control, thyroid disease, urinary incontinence and infant shoulder dystocia.

Dr. Cave has a special interest in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and often speaks to regional audiences on the topic of osteoporosis prevention and treatment. She values her opportunities to teach women how to live healthier and take charge of their own health care through wellness screenings and counseling. Dr. Cave especially enjoys being a part of a family’s new beginning with the birth of a child. She is very interested in innovative surgical techniques such as robotic surgery, and appreciates being able to treat patients both medically and surgically.

Dr. Harpole enjoys educating her patients so they can make smart informed choices about their own health care. She helps patients navigate treatment options and alternative therapies from birth control to hormone replacement. Dr. Harpole finds it especially rewarding to guide patients through the life changing events of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. As a Biomedical Engineer, she takes pride in the precision required for the best surgical outcomes. She performs vaginal, minimally invasive, and open operations as well as office procedures such as endometrial ablation, IUD placement, and permanent birth control.
Laparoscopy
Dr. Mann enjoys all aspects of obstetric and of gynecologic surgery and has a particular interest in laparoscopy and minimally-invasive surgery. Dr. Mann also has training in robotic surgery. In spite of all this, he states that delivering babies “is the coolest thing in medicine.” To Dr. Mann, educating and building good rapport with his patients is paramount.
Reconstructive Surgery
In addition to being board certified as a general OB/GYN, Dr. Scordalakes is sub-specialty board-certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. This sub-specialty (formerly known as urogynecology) involves managing and correcting pelvic support issues (such as prolapse) as well as multiple conditions relating to urinary tract functioning (voiding issues, pain and incontinence).

Laparoscopic Surgery
Dr. Howell chose obstetrics and gynecology because it allows both primary patient care and hands-on obstetrics and surgical intervention for his patients. He follows in the footsteps of his father, Marshall G. Howell Jr, MD, and enjoyed 2 years in practice with him before his dad’s retirement. He has a special interest in pelvic support restorative surgery, including the correction of urinary incontinence. He takes an active interest in developing and maintaining da Vinci Robotic surgery at Deaconess Women’s Hospital. He is also skilled at laparoscopic surgery and feels that its minimally invasive nature and rapid recovery is superior for the wellbeing of his patients.

Skin Cancer
Every woman has a story or connection to breast cancer. After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women, regardless of race or ethnicity. Getting a mammogram is the best way to reduce the impact of breast cancer, because tumors caught early are easier to treat.
Lesions
In 1991, the CDC created the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). Since the start of the program, more than 28,000 women have had cervical cancers or precancerous lesions detected through this free or low-cost screening. Also, in 1991, the FDA approved the first diagnostic test for the detection of high-risk, or cancer-causing, HPV types.
