  • Fancy Dessert Bar
    by  on 01/28/2010

This place is similar to Chikalicious, Dessert Bar. They serve delicate and high quality desserts. Everything here is nicely presented and the texture of their dessert is silky and rich. The atmosphere is intimate and cute. Bring your date here!

  • Worst Service ever!
    by  on 07/17/2009

I went this place for second time today cuz I remember the decoration and food quality were good. \r When I went there by 6, there were only 2 other tables filled up. So I was expecting somewhat fast serving today.\r \r I waited five minutes just to get a cup of water and I told waitress to wait 30 sec for me to decide. She never came back for other five minutes so I had to stand up and call them up. \r \r When the waitress came in, I told her that I think I have to wait desserts now just in case no one comes in to take order.\r \r And I was expecting little apology or silence but she told me ""Are you sure you want to do this to me?""\r \r What the hell. I looked her back and she didn't say any word. \r \r How great it is to threaten customer?\r \r I still don't know if she spitted on my food or anything.\r \r And they will never come to you unless you call them up first. Only time they show up is when they take your order or get your check. For the time I stayed there (around 1 hr) I never seen a single person who get their cup of water refilled. \r \r It was definitely far worst service I ever had in NYC restaurant. Withi kind of service, what is the point of giving tip? I was even so sad that I had to pay tax for such a service. \r \r Don't complain to them. How would know if they're going to do with your food?\r

  • Cheap romantic place for first date
    by  on 09/11/2008

Dessert...didnt think they are exceptionally good...but not a bad place to go for first date if you want a romantic place but yet dont want to pay too much for the first date. Prices are not expensive but they do expect you to order a dish each. I wont go back just because of the rude attitude from the waitress since we didnt order a dish each although we all had coffee each and we ordered some dessert (just not 1 for everyone cos we were so full from dinner) to they were not even busy so i really felt the rude attitude was uncalled for.

  • Recommended for Dates
    by  on 08/10/2008

I brought a date here after a disasterous dinner at Momofuku, and Kyotofu single-handedly saved the night. The space is intimate and warm, the cocktails were great - strong and not overly sweet, and the desserts just plain rocked. I recommend trying the chocolate cake and the sesame tofu, which is what we shared. I didn't try the dinner items, but a lot of people were eating them and they looked pretty good. I also appreciated the fact that the staff let us linger over our drinks and desserts without rushing us out. I definitely impressed my date - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

  • Great Experiences!
    by  on 08/09/2008

I've had nothing but great experiences at Kyotofu, and I've been 5 or 6 times in the last few months, since I live in the neighborhood. Their desserts are outstanding - light and not too sweet. My personal favorite is their sesame tofu, but other dining companions have really liked the chocolate cake, chocolate cupcakes, and soymilk ice cream. I've also had their cocktails - inventive and not too sweet - and their savories, which I liked. I am especially fond of their sliders. I will say that service can be spotty, depending upon who is working. Buit for the most part, I've had very positive experiences.

  • Ridiculously amazing Hell's Kitchen Gem!!
    by  on 06/14/2008

It's been a little while since I've been to Kyotofu, but they really deserve a great review from me, so I want to share what I remember of my experience! I came to Kyotofu on Valentine's Day--I had thought my date and I were just picking up some dessert to go, because until I came in, my impression from walking by on the outside, was that it was mainly a to-go place, but boy, was I wrong!! I was completely unaware of the beautiful mod back room with cream banquets and ceiling and dim night time lighting. It felt like I was transported to an eclectic, beautiful restaurant in Miami! We had the Valentine's Special, which was a prix-fix menu of three desserts and a complimentary cocktail. Like I said, it had been a little while since I went, but I remember there was a first course of a sweet tofu gelatin, another course of chocolate fondue & one more--everything was amazingly delicious! We were never rushed between meals & our server was extremely courteous! I have to admit, when we asked her a question we had a little trouble understanding the answer, but she was very sweet & it doesn't matter 'cause everything is so good anyways! Very romantic atmosphere! Definitely the kind of place to go & try lots of the different small plates. There was a fabulous cappuccino cocktail that is still calling my name! It's so great going there knowing that what you're eating is actually good for you! Kyotofu is a must-go!! Also, the profile photo is from the back room looking towards the front. In the front there is also a small bar with seating there & on the perimeter. Even better, the kitchen is directly across from the bar, so if you're in the front, you can watch the fascinating process of your own wonderful meal being prepared!

  • Delicious, Delicate, and easier to get into than Chikalious!
    by  on 02/17/2008

Met my friend there for afternoon dessert, overall a wonderful experience. The place, the menu and ambience is identical to Chikalious, but so much easier to get into. They even had a small lunch menu, which was small-portioned but nonetheless delicious. Friendly staff, clean and simple. There was a wait for my soymilk quiche, but well worth the wait. I also recommend the cheesecake. Not a place to eat a full meal, but great for an impromptu date spot. Will definitely come again.

  • Save your money and your dignity
    by  on 10/14/2007

I came here with some friends from out of town and was embarrassed to have done so. Two of the people in our large party didn't order their own desserts (they shared others') and when it came time to pay the bill, we were informed that those people would each have to pay a share charge. Not only was this not mentioned on the menu or when we ordered, but when the bill actually came, they charged EACH of us - even those that did order dishes - a share charge! The dessert wasn't that great anyway, but it's the service that will keep us from ever coming back.

  • A Tastey Escape
    by  on 07/09/2007

Kyotofu just might be one of my new favorite restaurants in the city. I visited this outstanding eatery with a friend, and both of us agreed that the unique food and cool ambiance, made for a out-of-the ordinary night on the town. The deliciously cool cocktails were just what we needed to beat the heat. The innovative use of soy provided the great taste of Japanese cuisine with a new twist. Lastly, make sure not to skip dessert. The decadent tastes were just what I wanted to finish off an amazing night. I am so excited about this new discovery, and I recommend everyone stop by and find out for themselves why Kyotofu really is such a delicious surprise.

  • Pleasant but not more
    by  on 05/03/2007

This is the second dessert restaurant that I've been to and I've yet to be wowed. I suppose I have higher expectations than I do when I go to a regular restaurant, and I can think of more memorable desserts at some of them.\r I went with a friend. We shared the tasting menu then ordered another dish (the ""parfait"" which was really an ice cream). Apart from the somewhat strange tasting tofu cheese cake it was all quite nice, and in the case of the molten chocolate cake, really quite good (remarkably fragrant). But nothing that stood out as particularly distinctive. Somewhat annoying was the fact that the sauces listed on the menu were only streaks on the plate that we were lucky to get a wiff of.\r The space is great, white and enveloping.
