FibromyalgiaWhile stress alleviation is commonly a benefit of massage, a medical massage is focused on healing a diagnosed condition and is results-orientated. Conditions can range from auto injuries to sciatica to fibromyalgia.
Carpal Tunnel SyndromeNerve damage or injury can occur either to the nerve axon or the myelin sheath and can include possible injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome) or disorder (such as neuropathy). The results of this test help the physician accurately determine the type and extent of the nerve damage, which enables proper diagnosis and treatment plans.
Computed Tomography“This is the 1st time I’ve written a review on anything but it’s worth sharing my experience. A little over a year ago I started having numbness on the right side of my body. My symptoms initially started from my right ear & traveled across the right side of my face. It reminded me of when my wisdom teeth were coming in so I went to see my dentist & he found nothing wrong. The following day the numbness traveled from the right side of my face to my jaw, neck then down my right arm. Being a nurse I knew that I wasn’t having a stroke or heart attack. I didn’t display the “classic symptoms”. I figured it may be due to stress or possibly a pinched nerve in my neck or shoulder. I’m also a dancer/instructor and do a lot of repetitive movement. When the symptoms didn’t go away by the 3rd day I went to the E.R. After E.R. doctors did their physical assessments & couldn’t find anything. They began doing a psychological assessment as if I were making these symptoms up. I know my body & I wasn’t going insane. I asked the neurologist if it was possible that I had a pinched nerve. He said that it was possible but the CT scan didn’t show anything abnormal. I was instructed to follow up with my MD & was discharged. I was referred to a neurologist & after having a MRI it was confirmed that I did have pinched nerves in my neck. I was concerned about my career, I started to have a lot of pain, discomfort & consistent numbness w/ tingling. I had acupuncture with physical therapy for a few months & it helped. I decided it was time to look for a chiropractor. I went online & found Back & Body Medical. Dr. Sivendra & Dr. Perna along w/ their staff are absolutely wonderful. I appreciate their professionalism, they are always pleasant, respectful, I never feel rushed when asking questions & theyve put me at ease on my worst days. Its a plus that it isnt a long wait to be seen. I honestly thought I would never feel “normal” again. The combination of following their instructions & the excellent work they perform my symptoms have significantly improved. I’m so grateful for them.”

MRI“I’m All Better!!!! – I went to Back and Body Medical because I had a shoulder injury. Dr Perna was very professional and caring. I had never been to a PT before and was a little skeptical of going but I needed to know what was going on with my shoulder. I went in and was referred to have an MRI. The office that he sent me to was not far from his office and they were equal in their professionalism. After 3 months of treatment I felt as though I was back in high school and playing baseball. I would definitely recommend Dr. Perna and his team at Back and Body Medical. Thank you Dr. Perna.”
Internal MedicineDr. Sivendra began his residency in Internal Medicine at United Hospital (affiliated with University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey), and completed it in June 1999 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York), receiving the Resident Research Award in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
SciaticaBack pain and sciatica are two of the most debilitating ailments that are not fatal but can definitely make you want to pass out, especially if the attacks are excruciating and unbearable. When a person is having a particularly bad attack of backache and sciatica, the immediate option would certainly be to take a pain […] Read More
Sports Medicine“Saved me- again I ve gone to see Dr. Perna in the past for low back pain. He and the team there did a great job. So when I hurt my neck working out I knew exactly where I was going. I’ve been working out alot with a trainer lately to lose weight but my body was just breaking down. Anyway, one day I went in to have my neck worked on I mentioned I was having pain in my right calf. It starting hurting after a leg work out a few days earlier and began to have a black and blue mark on it. He thoroughly examined it and then began to ask me about my upcoming plans for work outs. I told him I was going to run a race (5k) that weekend. He encouraged me to have an MRI of my calf taken before I tried to run the race. I half- heartily ageed but am I glad I got the MRI. It turned out I had a partial tear of my calf muscle. If I had tried to run that weekend there was a really good chance I could have made it much, much worse. Thanks to Dr. Perna a little rehab and rest and I was back in the gym in a little over a month. I’m told if it tore completely it could have taken much longer and I might have needed surgery. This office is the real deal for sports injuries. I just barely mentioned my calf pain but he took the time to look into the problem further. I can t thank him enough”
Manual TherapyThe Graston technique is a type of manual therapy used to mobilize soft tissues. With this innovative treatment, the certified practitioner uses specially designed stainless steel Graston instruments to detect and treat soft tissue injuries. Each instrument has been specifically shaped for a particular area of the body, such as the neck, hand, or leg. Usually with other forms of manual therapy, the practitioner is limited to more superficial treatment, due to the compression of the finger pads when pressed upon the body. The stainless steel Grastron instruments allow the practitioner to access and treat deeper restrictions, thereby enabling greater healing.
Physical TherapyIf you’re suffering from any kind of pain or strain that keeps you from performing functional daily activities, such as trouble bending over, sharp pains in specific areas such as neck or back, tingling sensations, inflammation, or limited mobility in limbs, or if you’ve recently had surgery or suffered an injury and your pain has become unbearable, you may need physical therapy.
