Founded in 1904, The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad is a publicly owned and operated terminal switching railroad. It is owned by the citizens of the city of New Orleans and operated through the Public Belt Railroad Commission. It transports rubber, food, agriculture, paper and building material products. The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad works with various companies that specialize in the warehousing, distribution and transloading of trucks, containers and railcars. It also has nearly 5 railroads that operate in North America with a network of more than 130,000 miles. It has business development, engineering, mechanical and transportation departments.
