I'd been hearing about this place, because everyone knows I love pinball, and it's only two block from where my band works. I normally don't frequent bars since I work in one, but from what I'd heard of this one I was planning to be a steady customer. Pinballs are so rare in the wild these days, so tonight I asked my friend to meet me there for some old school fun. We were very excited when saw that they had a wall of classic arcade machines, as well as quite a few pinball machines. So I asked the attendant, "" Could I get a BUNCH of change to put into your machines?"" He looked at me like I just pee'd in the punch. Baffled I asked, ""I suppose I should try the bar?"" He replied, ""The Machines are off,"" I replied, ""But they are on, are they broken?"" At which point a lady storms over and angrily demands I leave for disturbing their poetry reading. Well, in a decade of working on Bourbon Street (this place is a block off Bourbon) I've never walked into a bar at 9pm with it's doors wide open to the public and been greeted by a poetry reading. They could have cut me some slack, realizing that a normal person thinks a bar is a place you go to party and have a good time. What kind of doorknob would sit and listen to poorly written, poorly read poetry when there's a perfectly good Zaxxon sitting right there running it's attract mode? The kind I don't want to hang out with, that's for sure, I will not be going back to The Gold Mine Saloon. I am very selective about bars, and this one is definitely not for me, or anyone not interested in being quiet and listening to a bunch of art nerds read bad poetry.

Go back, re-read the Editors' review. It is exactly that. Kind of dark Cheers meets a mellow dance club. This is a world class bar. Quiet early, raging late. A really upscale, very attrative crowd. I've been to MANY clubs and had more fun here than any I can remember. Check out Saturday nights... incredible.

Are you kidding? The GOLD MINE is the best place on the planet! Lotsa super classy people. Greatest music I've ever heard played anywhere. Total Fun Overload. Plus all the coolest classic video games like PAC-MAN and GALAGA too. And the bottled BEER is cold and cheap! Oh yeah, these people invented the famous FLAMING DR. PEPPAR SHOT too! GOLD MINE rocks baby!
