Mae Kong Thai Restaurant

I love this restaurant, the food is delicious! Never disappointed whatever I pick on menu, it is fresh and perfect combinations of spices. The staff is always friendly. Highly recommend it!

This restaurant was recommended to me by my doctor who is a thai food aficionado. We had just moved to New Britain and Mae Kong had just opened. So we tried it. And now it's one of our most favorite places to eat!



The owner is always there and not just overseeing things. She's taking orders and delivering food or bussing tables. Her niece is the primary server and they are both the sweetest people. We are always welcomed warmly and are treated like old friends. Whether it's just the two of us or we bring friends along - it is always a wonderful experience.



And the FOOD!? Out of this world. It's all prepared to order with fresh ingredients and is served piping hot. Favorite dishes are: chicken drunken noodles and Tom Kha Kai soup. Off of the House Specials we recommend the Crispy Chicken and the Mae Kong Noodles. Our vegetarian friend recommends the veggie stir-fry if you're not a meat eater.



But my absolute FAVORITE menu item? The fried banana with coconut ice cream. They have other flavors of ice cream if you don't like coconut, but I highly recommend it in this combination. It's simply amazing!



So if you love thai food - or have never tried it - give Mae Kong a visit. You'll be glad you did!

The food is okay, but King and I Thai on Park Street in Hartford is better.

So - granted I get the Chicken Drunken noodle every time but it is up there with the best in CT! So glad they moved in across the street from work - I have been picking up to go a lot lately. BYOB is coming by August - I think. Down side - it's not in the greatest area but have never had an issue here. Make sure you go! Menu is online and quite comprehensive! I am going to try something new next time :)

This restaurant is a comfortable, clean, and delicious place to eat with friends, family or alone. The staff is inviting, personable and caters wonderfully to each customer. This alone would be enough to set it apart from restaurants in the area...but the food....OMG. The flavors of Thai are perfectly balanced and every bite tastes fresh and home cooked...like your mom made it. The delicate dance of sweet, spicy and aromatic....yum. I happened to stop in the first day they opened...and it is now my favorite spot. My kids loved it too...and I am not easily wooed. GO to this place!
