Rakesh Banerjee: Rakesh started learning Tabla (Indian drums) at the tender age of eight under the tutelage of Pt. Dhirendranath Haldar, and later Pt. Kanchan Dey, a renowned artist from Kolkata, India. His musical talent was soon discovered by professional artists and he started accompanying them at shows in early teen years. Rakesh Banerjee was enlisted as a Tabla player in Kolkata Durodarshan (government owned only television channel) and Akash Bani Kolkata (radio) before turning twenty which is a rare accomplishment in a city that is considered to be the “Musical Mecca” among the Indian musicians. He received the best Tabla player award of West Bengal in 1988. Rakesh completed his Masters in music from Vidya Sagar School of music before migrating to the US in 1991. Rakesh continued his musical voyage under the guidance of Pt. Swapan Choudhury, one of the greatest Tabla maestros of all time. True talent never remains undiscovered as Rakesh’s popularity grew exponentially and celebrity artists from overseas came looking for him to accompany them at shows. Since then for almost twenty years in the US, Rakesh has accompanied all major artists from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh; Manna Dey, Ghulam Ali, Bhupen Hazarika, Bappi Lahiri, Runa Laila, Haimanti Shukla, Sabina Yasmin to name a few. Throughout years Rakesh has continued to develop his network by collaborating with several cultural, social and performing arts organizations as well as major promoters across America as well as in India including, Yash Pal Soi, Cultural Association of Bengal, Bangladesh Society of LA, Bengal Journalist Association, Indo-Caribbean Musical band association, Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts, West Bengal Professional Performing Arts Society. Rakesh is also a life time member of Kolkata Cine Musician Association. Rakesh has been playing a key role behind several successful community events by promoting and coordinating with musicians, dancers, performance groups as well as through his mastery in percussion. Some of his recent accomplishments were India Day Parade ‘08, FOBANA ‘08 (North America Bangladesh Conference), 2007 East Cost Durga Puja festivals. Chandan Banerjee: Younger of the two brothers, Chandan is an excellent percussionist who also manages the technical aspects of the events BB Entertainment coordinates. Chandan, an enlisted artist with Akashbani Kolkata has been following the footsteps of his brother since his child hood years. Chandan released a fusion album named “East Meets West” in the year 2003 in India which received numerous accolades among the music lovers. For over fifteen years Chandan has been in the mainstream Indo-American entertainment scene collaborating with artists from South East Asia alongside his brother.
