My experience was getting an outrageous bill for an out-patient procedure that I had asked for pricing beforehand. The overcomplicated billing practices are intentionally complex and confusing, leaving me thinking I was only needing to pay a fraction of the thousands that they later billed me for. Then, as if they were doing me a favor, they lowered the bill to what most would still consider insane! Welcome to our healthcare system... And there is NOTHING any of us can do about it and they know it!

My step father went there and got terrible service. The nurse was suppose to come in to teach him how to use a catheter and never came in. Dr. forgot to tell nurse. Xrays were very late because the system got messed up said the Dr. Other stories within the story, but will say the are big but not better.

Very recently I had surgery at Mishawaka S J R M C, and for good reasons have decided to not use this hospital the surgeon or the anesthesiaologist or nurses involved with the surgery I had there any more in the future

Unfortunately, I have had to take my husband there several times over the last couple years. Although they have sometimes been very busy, they have always been extremely thorough and kind with his care. We trust them completely with the medical wellbeing of my husband who has a complex medical history. They listen to our concerns and answer all our questions.

The emergency room service is terrible. I took someone there last night with terrible stomach pain (that had increasingly gotten worse over the course of 3 days). The monitor in the waiting room said there was a 48 minute wait. After waiting for over an hour and him getting worse and throwing up since we had been there and making himself comfortable by laying on the ground I went and asked how much longer. They couldn't tell me. A nurse came out with a wheelchair and said he had to sit in a wheelchair and couldn't lay on the floor. I explained to her he had gotten worse, told her what the monitor said (and her response was "I wouldn't even pay attention to that thing".. so take it down!), and asked if they had a bed he could lay on and she said "no, he needs to sit down". He proceeded to be in so much pain he had to lay back on the floor. They finally came and took him back and scolded him for laying on the floor. When he said he didn't have a choice her response was "Yes you did. We always have a choice." They were not professional with him and were very rude to me. They were also rude when they called to have him picked up. They had diagnosed him with the flu (which I think is because they couldn't find anything else wrong with him) and when asked "so, he was in that much pain because of the flu?" their response was "Yea, I guess. Are you going to come pick him up?" I'm EXTREMELY disappointed in the care he got and the way we were treated all around. I will NEVER go back to that hospital for anything.

Cruel end of life support

I was told when my mother was.removrd from life support she would be transferred to a private room, have a hospice nurse president the whole time and would be administered anxiety and morphine medicine from the time she was removed from life support through the time she passed away. The swing nurse that was assigned to several different icu patients delayed her relocation to a hospice room and gave me several excuses for this. She removed the breathing tube from my mother's throat and didn't come back till almost two hours when I tracked her down to administer the anxiety medicine my mother was supposed to have so she didn't panic while she was dieing, for she did have anxiety issues. This nurse who was obviously untrained in hospice care then told me and my family my mother had passed. Then 15 minutes later sent a staff member to tell me my mother was infant still alive. I feel this is an outrage and I am seeking legal counsel on such. I would rate ZERO stars if it were possible

2-29-12 I went with a friend for an outpatient surgery. We were very pleased with the service and the professional attention that was given. Everyone that attended to her was kind, concerned and compassionate to her needs. Thank you all for a great experience!

To St Joseph Hospital! Grow up...

To St Joseph Hospital! Grow up will you! Rudeness will not help

We went to St. Joseph Hospital to take the birth facility tour. So much for a brand new facility and location!! It does not matter how well built the facility is, if it does not get support with competent services, it wont work! in Hospital industry, Customer Service has to be the number 1. Give the visitors at least a smile! Guess what?! It is Nada, Zero, Zip, minus! We finished the tour and decided to stay awhile and visited the gift shop. Our 3 year old daughter was interested in the umbrella display in front of the store, she tried couple of them and we were going to buy one for her. Suddenly, the cashier approached and grabbed the umbrella out of my daughter's hand forcefully. It was shocking! WHAT THE HELL!!!! She could have told us (The parents) that the display cannot be touched!! or put do not touch sign! I just wonder, if the people in the gift shop can be that RUDE!, what about the other services! I came there happy and went home pissed and with big disappointment! Grow up St. Jo Hospital!! You will need it to survive!

Rudest staff ever! I have had ...

Rudest staff ever! I have had 3 miserable encounters with different staff at St Jo Med Center. First, I called to inquire about volunteering. The volunteer coordinator told me she couldn't be bothered to get to my application, so it was up to me if I wanted to waste my time filling one out (if they had too many volunteers, a "Thanks for inquiring but we don't have any spaces right now" would have gone a lot further). A year later, I was expecting my first child, and I called to set up a visit of the birthing center as per the instructions on their website. The woman gruffly told me "It was today" (what was today?) only to tell me they have once a month tours and I'd have to wait a month....which is fine, but annoying when their website makes no mention of this and indicates you can call to schedule your own visit. Third, I called the prenatal education coordinator to learn about signing up for a class or two since I'm a first time mom and don't know much about how to care for a baby. She wouldn't give me any information until i told her my exact due date (how is that her business? I'm not a patient there....) and then told me I could only sign up for the class 10 days before my due date, even though other slots are available earlier. They don't even offer a baby care class-- she told me I'd just have to learn everything once I was in the hospital. Ludicrous! St. Jo may be shiny and new, but the staff there are jerks. I'll take Memorial, with their older facilities and wonderful staff any day over this place.

Rude and crude 6th floor women supervisors at New St. Joe Hospital

Nurses are sweethearts. All of them. But the day and evening supervisors, on the 6th floor, are the rudest women I've ever met. Their rules or regulations concerning children change from day to day. The way they go about explaining their new rules comes out crude, forward and extremely anticustomer oriented. Just a suggestion, they should go to manners class. They act as they were born with goldens in their mouth. As a supervisor of a hospital, you would think they would be compassionate and understanding as they are just the opposite. They judge people, I'm guessing. Yes, I'm on medicaid. Sorry, I'm not a billionaire, but I am going to college to become a lawyer. These women should switch places with a patient that is in my situation. I assume they wouldn't appreciate being treated like we were. After all said, my children were very well behaved and never left my room without my husband. They sat in my room quitely watching t.v with me or they were playing their dsi. Like I said, the nurses are splendid. They are compassionate and understanding like they should be. Thank you to all the nurses that treated me. How these supervisors received their job as "supervisor" is beyond me. What was it? A college degree without experience in this field.
