Dental Examination
Regular dental exams are an important part of preventive dentistry because they allow us to address dental problems in their early stages, and to identify serious problems. Most people need an exam every six months, but the Doctor may recommend more frequent visits depending on your circumstances.
X-rays
Coulter Family Dentistry offers you one the lowest radiation exposure dose possible in the greater South Bend – Mishawaka area. At a routine dental visit, four bite-wing x-rays are performed which only produce 0.005 mSv, which is less than spending a day outside!

Teeth Cleaning
Regular dental cleanings are part of a proper oral hygiene program. Cleanings help fight plaque, the major cause of tooth decay, gingivitis and other serious gum diseases.
Fluoride Treatment

Fillings
The FDA does not recommend removing or replacing amalgam fillings that are in good condition unless it is deemed medically necessary by your health care professional. This could be due to hypersensitivity to the amalgam material, or for people deemed to be at higher-risk due to possible adverse effects associated with mercury or other components of amalgam.
Resin Composite
Dental Bonding procedures typically involves the use of a durable composite resin material that is applied to repair decayed, chipped, fractured, discolored or misshaped tooth. When the Dental Bonding process is underway, the first step is the application of a putty like resin bonding material that is carefully shaped and polished so that the color closely matches that of surrounding teeth. Dr. Coulter uses shade guide technology to select the appropriate composite resin color to achieve the closest color match possible. Once this step is completed, and the resin material is hardened with either a medical laser or medical ultraviolet light that bonds the resin material to the teeth under treatment.
Veneers
Many people would like porcelain veneers on their teeth, but don’t know what veneers are, or how effective they can be to cover stained, chipped of even broken teeth. So what are Cosmetic Porcelain Veneers? Dental Veneers are thin porcelain “shells” that are bonded to teeth to totally rejuvenate a smile. Porcelain Veneers are a safe, conservative and extremely effective technique to correct gaps, chips, stains and other imperfections. Dental Porcelain, which reflects light just like real teeth, is the ideal material for veneers.
Crowns
A dental crown is a "cap" placed over a tooth. When cemented into place, crowns fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. The cap restores the tooth’s shape, size, strength and appearance, and when cemented into place, covers the visible portion of a tooth.
Bridges
Another type of Dental Bridge is known as a Cantilever Bridges. These are typically selected with adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth (or teeth). Cantilever Bridges are rarely used in the back of the mouth because the Cantilever Bridge can apply too much pressure on other teeth and cause damage to them.
Dental Bonding
After the dental bonding process is completed, it's important to completely avoid smoking, eating or drinking foods (tea, coffee, soda and other colored substances) that can stain for the first 48 hours after any composite procedure. To prevent stains, brush your teeth frequently, and have them cleaned regularly by Dr. Coulter’s dental hygienist regularly.
