Founded in 1980, Alternatives for People with Autism is a nonprofit organization providing residential programs and services for persons having the dual developmental disabilities of autism and mental retardation. The organization s Shingle Creek Option program provides a full-range of residential and program services to 14 adults in three apartments located in one building. The Little House Waiver Site program provides similar services to three young adults in a licensed foster care home. The organization also has a library of books, videotapes and materials on autism available to individuals and families. The organization is based in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
