X-rays
A full mouth series of dental X-rays is recommended for new patients and retaken every few years thereafter. Bite-wing X-rays (X-rays of top and bottom teeth biting together) are taken at check-up visits and are recommended once or twice a year to detect new dental problems.
Oral Cancer Screening
Regular dental check-ups increase the chance of early detection. During your routine cleaning and examinations you are given the option of an oral cancer screening to be done in addition to the visual exam of your mouth. Our screening is a very short procedure which consists of using different colored lights to highlight any abnormal tissue. If the test indicates any abnormality, the patient may be referred to an oral surgeon for further evaluation.

There are different types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Your dentist can discuss with you the best options for restoring your teeth. Composite (white) fillings, and silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today.
Resin Composite
Tooth colored fillings, also called composite resins, are most commonly used for smaller cavities and for the front teeth. Due to their cosmetic appeal they are very popular. It takes a little longer to place a tooth colored filling as it is very important to keep the area completely dry so the resins can bond correctly with the tooth for a good leak-free seal. These fillings are also a bit more expensive. Let West Allis Dental help you determine how much your insurance will cover for this and other types of fillings.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin porcelain shell placed over the surface of front teeth. Veneers are usually done to the part of the teeth that is visible when talking or smiling. They commonly involve two appointments. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two weeks when the custom veneers are ready, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. These laboratory-fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetically pleasing.

A root canal is a procedure that removes infected or damaged nerve tissue from inside a tooth and replaces it with a filling material called gutta percha. A root canal may be required if tooth decay reaches the nerve of a tooth or if a tooth sustains trauma. Often this damage to the nerve is associated with pain but not always.
Dentures are used to replace multiple missing teeth. They help a patient speak and chew, and provide an esthetic smile. A partial denture replaces any missing teeth on either the upper or lower arch, while a full denture replaces an entire arch. Dentures are made in a series of appointments. The first two appointments include making accurate models of the jaws and picking a shade for teeth. The third appointment is to determine size and location of the teeth. The fourth allows the patient and dentist to verify the location of the teeth before the final product is made. At the last appointment, the patient receives their dentures and learns how to properly care for their new teeth. During the first few months, the patient may need to return for a few quick adjustment appointments
A bridge is a custom, fixed prosthesis that replaces one or more missing teeth. It enhance your smile, speech and chewing function. A bridge can be supported by natural teeth or implants.
